It’s not often that a Richmond B.C. Chinese restaurant opens up in the San Gabriel Valley. There was Sea Harbour 20 years ago and Chef Tony five years ago, and offhand that’s all that comes to mind. Chef Tian is a little different, since Sea Harbour and Chef Tony are Hong Kong style restaurants, and Vancouver is renown for their Hong Kong style dim sum, seafood and cafes. Chef Tian specializes in Hunan style food, where authentic Hunan food appeared in the San Gabriel Valley well before it showed up in Vancouver. Nevertheless, Chef Tian is highly regarded in Richmond, and the quality seems to have held up here. But I would have preferred to see another Vancouver area Cantonese restaurant open up down here.
