Has anyone tried Verse in Toluca Lake? It looks very interesting. I also know there are musical guests and performances… would be fun to go!
I have been looking into it but can not find much info about who is playing and what the thing is all about. Was thinking of checking it out just to see what is going there.
Report back! I’d love to hear about your experience
I went there for the first time 2 weekends ago. Food was surprisingly good! I had the duck and shared the tostada, prawns, and hamachi. Their sauces are REALLY good. It’s a great place to take out of towners to. Service was a bit weird though, they’re attentive and friendly but the runners and waitress we had were just…awkward. Music was jazz when I went, but I heard on weekends its more lively.
You’re so right about the service. I live very close to this place and have only been a handful of times primarily because the staff are exceedingly weird. They are friendly and they mean well, but every time we go at least one server or water has the weirdest vibe that makes me or my wife uncomfortable. The food is better than I was initially expecting, but not so good that I would tell someone to drive over the hill to go here instead of Anajak. None of the sides are worth your time.
This place definitely has a lot of regulars that you will see, especially for the earlier reservations. Reservations aren’t hard to get though.
It’s always been Jazz when I’ve gone, but they do residencies pretty often and I know Robin Thicke was a resident a few months back.
Checked out Verse last night for Havana club Salsa night.
Food - mediocre (lots of salt too), Service - friendly, trying hard and succeeding some of the time, wine list - reasonable ( Bruno Paillard Brut Rose $110), muisic and sound - fantastic!
was just here last night for a private event so can’t comment on the restaurant menu/service…
but will say this, the most extraordinary experience is that you don’t have to yell over the music. I learned that this place was built/owned by a famous music producer to have great acoustics. so to be able to have conversations (with a packed house and full music/band) without yelling was really amazing experience all in of itself.
Absolutely - the sound is amazing, loud and clear, yet you can have a conversation at your table.
