Yah… that was ONE slice of persimmon at the end of a $400 omakase. A little too “chez panisse” for my liking.

Urasawa is a deal compared to some places in Asia.
I had a $550 LUNCH (not dinner, LUNCH) sushi omakase at Sawada in Tokyo once. Granted it was 37 delicious, ethereal pieces, many of them life-changing, but yes, a $550 lunch. Oh, and no photos allowed.
And probably not a potential tourist that ain’t that great like fucking Jiro, of Jiro Dreams of Sushi fame ???

remember in Asia there is no tipping/sales tax. So this is far cheaper than Urasawa, especially because I had some alcohol.
Michelin stars do not come cheap in Asia unless you want to eat dimsum (or go hang out in sweaty Thailand). But many of the top-end joints, especially in China, will be frequented by tourists. And they will bring a 4YO to a $300 omakase dinner without flinching. No fucks given.
Comparing Ginza Iwa to Nozomi is ludicrous, so I’m not going to do it. But TBH, I could’ve dropped about 1/3 at Mori and been really, really happy. Anyway, it was a partner dinner, so … shrug
But was it the best f*cking slice of persimmon ever??? (and not just the best slice YOU’VE had.

Within the same week, I also ate a massive, cool, persimmon picked fresh off the trees next to the Great Wall, for like… $0.33
So, yah, that slice was bullshit, served with some Japanese jingoism which I really despised. “It’s dainty, here, have a slice, it’s imported from Japan cuz we grow the best”. No, you really don’t. Just like Toyotas aren’t that great these days.
Or, I might’ve been brainwashed by Communists last month. Tough call.

It was not half bad after my lunch of the blue crab curry and thai fried chicken and the cappachino pudding from Luv2Eat Thai Bistro a few months back.

did you go to the original Boos (Virgil) or the ktown location? I got a mushroom cheesesteak to go from the Ktown branch a couple Sat.'s ago and thought that something was off. It just wasn’t as good as I remember it being. Maybe new grill guys or something, but I’m thinking next time I need to head back to the original location when I get a cheesesteak craving (but then if I go there, I get distracted by Ricky’s across the street and @ this point in my life, I can’t eat both).

Just order up any kids meal, and exchange the “toy” for an ice cream cone. Well, ok, not technically free, but if you consider that you cannot actually eat a toy (usu. some sort of stupid book, I mean, for crissake, a book??!!) then it is free.

You can get a free little cone at Ruby’s as well. Food is about on the (low) level of Chick-fil-A.
then I’ll have to give it one more try before I give up. My last sandwich just wasn’t up to par w/ the previous ones’s that I’ve gotten there.

yup. i was there one day when they were receiving their food delivery (@ the virgil location) and the rolls were definately labeled amoroso.
