Which stands have you seen passion fruits? Need to grab some of those!
My favorite See Canyon wasn’t there this morning but I did pick up some Arkansas black apples from Cuyama orchards for a french apple cake for turkey day
Rancho Santa Cecilia often has passion fruit. They specialize in exotic produce so you can pretty much stop by their stand all year round and find things that you are unlikely to find elsewhere. I know they go to the Hollywood Farmers Market, but not sure which other markets they go to.
Piggy-backing on @bruins comment, Rancho Santa Cecilia also offers mexicolas (sometimes called westernhole, walterhole, and one other name that is escaping me). You can eat the skin and the avocados are absolutely delicious when ripe.
I don’t know the name of the farm but the avocado vendor at the Venice farmers market currently has passion fruit. Price per pound fluctuates but they’re always less expensive than the grocery stores.
Ken’s farm has some great citrus. The oro blanco grapefruits are some of the best I’ve tasted
Just saw some stone fruit at the Sun Santa Monica FM. Didn’t try any myself b/c I think we’re still quite early in the season.
Had some strawberries and blackberries from SM farmer’s market yesterday. Didn’t buy them so I don’t know the vendor. They were fantastic. Very sweet but not quite the cloyingly sweet you get at the peak of berry season (though I enjoy those too in their own right).
Definitely safe to get stone fruit now. Plums and white nectarines great at Studio City today
Regier Farms had some fantastic early ripening Krista yellow peaches last Wednesday. Pretty amazing for spring.
Who are the go to stone fruit vendors (if any) at the Brentwood Farmer’s Market?
I like Arnett’s pluots.
Haven’t found a go-to for peaches there since Regier’s stopped going. ![]()
I had 15 minutes to spare in Philly last week so I walked the farmer’s market at Rittenhouse square. I came across a stand that had fingerling sweet potatoes both jewel and purple stokes. They looked great but I wasn’t going to pack them for the trip home. I must admit I’ve never seen fingerling sweets before and now am having some non-buyers remorse, my local partner bought them and said they were great. Are these available at any LA farmers markets? I might have just passed them by before but now I will hunt them down.
I don’t think I’ve seen anything like that but I’ll keep my eyes peeled!
Let me add that it would probably be more appropriate to call them baby’s than fingerlings but they were long and thin, not small and round.
Any good tomatoes showing up yet at SM?
No. Not really. Just the usual off season favorites (Valdivia and Wong farms both year round)
Beylik too. But yeah not widespread.
Kens and burkhart both had very good plums. Peaches at Ken’s not quite peak yet
Apricots from k and k are pretty good right now, one of the varietals is more tart and one is this floral fever dream. Getting some freshly milled whole wheat flour on Thursday and might have to make Nicole Rucker’s apricot galette which is the fav thing I’ve ever baked.
Partner is planning to go to SM Wed tomorrow to see what Regier’s has. The peaches we’ve gotten so far (can’t remember the name of the vendor at the SM Sunday one) have not been quite ready yet.
Harry Berry’s the last 2 wks have been excellent (not so good at all around Mother’s Day).
