Thanks for that update on Tenerelli @bagel. I noticed their stock is different but wasn’t sure why. I like Arnett’s apples & pears, but the stone fruit not as much. No Andy’s at the FMs I go to, but to me, when Ken’s Top Notch stone fruit is good, it’s really good. Those plums!

KCWR had an article this week about mangoes. I ordered some from a very nice gentleman named Omar. He posted up in Tustin and there were a lot of people coming to meet. The guy behind me ordered 15 boxes. Pakistani mango variety called Chausa. $40 for a 4.5 lb box. 7 smallish mangoes similar in size and color to champagne mangoes.

The mangoes are very delicate and you cannot cut them into squares. It’s easier to use a spoon. Sweet concentrated mango flavors without the stinky smell. It’s delicious. Glad we tried it. Is it worth $6 a mango?

Thanks for the tip!

Box of melons from weiser happened to be in Santa Monica on Saturday and couldn’t pass up some melons. Asked the Weiser farmer and got a pretty cagey response regarding Torrance basically said “we won’t be back for a long time probably”.

Melons were great maybe not the best I’ve ever had but definitley peak season juice and sweetness.

I bought a kenji, arava, sugar cube, Bonny, and another melon that escapes me. Standouts were the Bonny and the arava. Will be trying the kenji in a couple of days apparently it’s named after the farmer that sold it to me which is pretty neat

I asked them today as well and pretty much got the same response.

How would you say these compare to the champagne mangoes, taste-wise?

Paid 13 dollars for a wongs mango and unfortunately it was worth it.

Significantly better. Way sweeter and much more concentrated mango flavor. Each mango does not yield a lot of fruit. My son and I are literally using our teeth to gnaw off fruit from the pit and off the skin. Best mangoes we’ve eaten and much different than the ones we get in the US.

Has anyone seen Wong Farm mangoes?

Hollywood FM on Sunday

Were they there this Sunday? I missed this past Sunday but they weren’t there other ones.

If a farm can sell everything they produce at fewer markets they make more money. I’ve known at least one that stopped going to markets entirely because they could sell everything they grew to restaurants.

see above, paid 13 dollars for one and ate one yesterday and it was worth it. Got it at LA home farm.

@rohto how much do they cost at the farmers market? Is this the same Wong Farm that sells a variety of Asian produce, like midway across the boulevard? Always have great peppers, varietals of basil, the best sweet potatoes in LA, etc.? These are the mango people?!?!?!

They mostly specialize in Tomatoes and Basil at the SMFM (at least) then every once in a while they bring in a third crop like the mangos
