Yes
I guess I know what I’m doing this weekend.
I get their tasty cherry tomatoes too and got these Veronas for the first time - juicy & sweet. Avoid the San Marzano - dry & gritty.
ooooh! i’m gonna have to get those tomatoes
Everybody’s understandably obsessed with Harry’s Berries strawberries, but their tomatoes are pretty great, too. With the exception of the weirdly bad San Marzanos, I love their tomatoes. They used to make & sell a fantastic salsa - perfect balance of bright, fresh tomatoes, salt, acid, garlic, peppers, onion, cilantro - but they stopped, something about insurance cost of using cilantro. The food biz is a complicated PITA.
Did you make sauce with the San Marzanos?
That was the plan but they weren’t good. I tossed them.
When you’re not a huge fan of stone fruit but Mr. Weiser says eat this nectarine, you eat the nectarine. Of course he was right - not pretty but delicious, and I bought some.
Made a couple of salads with Weiser Melons.
Melons (canary, ha’ogen, sugar cube, bonny), Cucumbers, Spicy Pickled White Onions, Sprouts (cantaloupe, sunflower, radish, nasturtium), Olive Oil, Italian Pepper-Citrus Olive Oil, White Balsamic, Yuzu Hot Sauce
Canary Melon, Nuoc Cham, Safflower Oil, Spicy Pickled White Onions, Thai Basil, Pickled Thai Chilis, Peanuts, Crispy Purple Shallots, Crispy Chili-Lime Onions, TJs Crunchy Chili Onion Sprinkle
Yum
Anyone know where’d best to buy Wongs other than HFM if they’re sold out? Trying to bring some to a chef friend in Chicago when I fly on Wednesday
What times your flight? They’re at Wednesday SM
Earrrrllyyyyy. So picking up monday or tuesday ideal if any of them have then? Or has anyone seen at any retail like cookbook?
Worst case I can bring him some weiser melons and grab some unripe ones at Mar Vista on sunday
Try calling LA Home farm or LA Grocery and Cafe. I know they get them sometimes
Farm Shop at the Brentwood Country Mart has some nice produce from the farmers market, they even had some Andy’s Orchard a couple weeks ago. Don’t know if they specifically have Wong Farms but if you are just looking for great fruit it’s worth keeping in mind.
unfortunately a lot of these places don’t have em, I’ve called.
I really think you can almost certainly get them at LA Homefarm. They are about double–I grabbed a few on Monday. If you show up on Sunday, there will be some I reckon.
Farmer’s Market haul:
Prune plums and Seckel pear’s from See Canyon
Basque garlic & Cayenne peppers from Windrose farms
Cavillon melon and Suncrest peaches from Weiser
Gaviota’s and radishes from McGrath family farm
Marbonne tomatoes from Smith
