Keep seeing nice long beans everywhere and lamenting the closure of A-1 Grocery in Echo Park where you used to be able to buy bags of pre-shredded green papaya for thai papaya salad.
Anyone else sell bags ready-to-go? Bangluck maybe?

Haven’t seen it at either Bangluck I’ve been to (Hollywood & N Hollywood). Last time I made som tum I had to shred it myself and it was an absolute pain in the ass.
How about Silom Market? Those would be the only 2 Thai markets? Doesn’t Jet Tila’s family has one on Melrose I think?
I have seen it at Bangluck, just not all the time
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it at Silom. But going there makes me walk right by Lacha Somtum, so it’s a hard sell to make it myself vs. picking up theirs ![]()
Silom almost always has pre-shredded bags. They also have whole-ass papayas, available many markets, you can shred yourself with a handheld julienne peeler (example) or with a benriner. Really not that much work, less expensive, and a la minute, as they say.
