Wilde's - Los Feliz

Killer new British-ish spot in Los Feliz. Arrived at 4:55 and they were full up by 5.

Highlights were all things pork (coppa/rilette/cracklings on the kohlrabi) the fried bass with minty pea sauce and salt and vinegar chips and the guinea fowl pie for 2 (which we did for 4)

desserts also great (fall eton mess with pear and a sticky toffee pudding)

great wine list everything under 100$

Not something we have a lot of (cafe 2001 gives similar St. John vibes but is more eclectic and has that Japanese twist too) so to me a refreshing new place in our scene.

Had a really fun night here

Not familiar with this reference…?

Wow the pics do look like a compact St. John. Love it.

St John, London.

Well shit, apparently I went to school with one of the two women who opened this place. Just saw a post on Instagram. Guess I ought to try it out, my general distaste for British food notwithstanding.

I guess I should have specified St. John in London but it’s a pretty common restaurant reference for classic meets modern British food! Wildes is even doing some nose to tail with their “half hog” program that shows across multiple dishes. But maybe that says enough about its place in LA and how Wildes is something that folks don’t have a ton of reference for!

wow it does look like a mini st john.
the menu had me at welsh rarebit and meat pie. it’s refreshing not to see yet another hamachi crudo. thanks for the report.

bangers and mash for $30, no bottle of wine under $55, this city is so cooked.

portion was quite big and they’re doing an in house whole hog (soon, now just half) program and the majority of the wine list was quite affordable. Idk if this is the place to single out for priciness

I’m pretty much only fluent in LA-restaurant references!

A post was merged into an existing topic: Restaurant prices: threat or menace?

Theyre going to do a lunch service and also pastries/coffee. 4 of us had almost the whole menu, multiple desserts, and 2 bottles of wine and came out 100 a pop. I’m also in the same industry - and I get it. I just don’t know where you get a bottle under 55 and quality food like this for a lower price point especially given Los Feliz rent. it’s not like All Time is cheap lolol

This is an aside but I seemingly caught St. John on a particularly offal-y menu. Swear that there was only one main that wasn’t offal. It was like deciding between ox hearts and like sheep liver. I think a LA restaurant with that menu would close in two nights.

That’s accurate - this was way more “accessible” which by no means is a bad thing.

yeah I love good, approachable British food. It’s high on my list. I also saw on instagram that they said to come on the later side and usually there’s space

Last night was bumping. We got there just before 5 and there was a line of walk ins! But we had to be somewhere at 8 so we wanted to get into the first seating
