Nothing new, more of the same, he’s been posturing about closing the deli due to crime in the area for years now. His last threat prompted Karen Bass to rush over for an emergency sit down lunch with him where she pledged to clean up the area. Unsurprisingly, it sounds like there’s been no sustained improvement.
If it sounds like I am brushing off Langer’s concerns - it’s really quite the contrary. The concerns are incredibly real and valid, but I have given up hope that our city will do anything about it. Langer’s situation is a microcosm of issues faced citywide - it just gets attention because it’s historic and beloved.
Crime aside, it sounds like Norm is ready to retire, and unless a white knight swoops in, Langer’s will be closing in a couple years, if not sooner. I’ll be sure to visit as many times as I can before we lose this treasure forever.
