Windsor Brown’s is newish Sandwich, Craft Beer, and Wine Shop on Anaheim’s Center St. Promenade.
The sandwiches there are a true delight. They are creative, both the names they’ve dreamed up and the ingredients. There are a lot of options. The sandwiches are stuffed with various meats (from Boar’s Head), vegetables, greens, and cheeses. Extra special attention is paid to the variety of condiments folded into them that enhance the above items. They include Beer Mustard, Horseradish Mayo, Spicy Aioli, Herb Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, etc. Most of the sandwiches are rather large and sometimes we only eat half a sandwich and take the rest home.
The bread is is always stellar, sourced from Bread Artisan in Santa Ana. One of the owners told us they sampled bread from six artisan bakeries in the area and this one was by far the best. Bread selections include Sourdough, Hoagie Rolls, Rye, and Ciabatta. On some sandwiches, the bread is toasted.
There are also a couple of salads and sides, but so far we haven’t tried them.
They have 18 sandwiches on the menu and another 3 or 4 specials posted daily. We’ve been a bunch of times, trying a dozen or more selections and we can’t get enough of them. They are sometimes a little on the messy side, due mainly to the condiments, but very very tasty. Windsor Brown’s has definitely elevated sandwich-making!
We’re not beer drinkers, so I can’t comment much on the craft beers, but there are 16 mainly California and European selections on rotation. One of the owners also owns Windsor Homebrew Supply Co. and Bottle Shop in Costa Mesa and Anaheim Canyon. They also serve a selection of natural wines. They’ve been open 3-4 months.
Anaheim isn’t known for creative food, with a couple of exceptions, so this is a wonderful find.
The dining room is all clean and spare lines and the tree-shaded patio is leafy and inviting. Open from 11 am to 8 pm Tuesday thru Saturday, Sunday 11 am to 6 pm, 211 Center St. Promenade, Anaheim.
