Yang's Kitchen

This place was kind of amazing. One of the better
meals I’ve had recently. Very high QPR. Razor clams maybe best prep I’ve ever had.

I wish I did more business in this area so I could stop by more often, too.

Went for dinner with friends last night.

There was plenty of toast with the fish dip. Never finished the last slice.

Duck with taro was a nice twist on mashed potatoes. Shoestrings were super-crunchy.

Also had Dungeness cold noodle, dry-aged collar, grilled cabbage with bagna cauda, pork jowl, chicken rice with fish, and sost-serve swirl with black sesame. Hard to pick a favorite, everything was perfectly cooked and delicious.

Great meal, reminded me of Majordomo. Wine list is remarkable. I highly recommend the “Monster” Riesling.

Went back for brunch. No photos because my phone needs repair. Mochi pancake, smoked salmon hash, vanilla soft serve with black sesame crunch, all great.

Peony: I enjoyed the food tonight. They did a good job making Chinese-Western fusion food. Their oyster selection was pretty good and flavorful. The hiramasa crudo had an interesting flavor. I liked their duck and scallops too.

Warrior: We came here years ago and weren’t impressed. Today, I would say the restaurant is much improved. Good wine list, good food. Punches above its weight for its location and size. That said, I’m still not as fond of this restaurant as Peony and other posters. I had a lot of little gripes like soggy cabbage, too much brown butter in multiple dishes, too much oil in the steamed fish, an oyster that was shucked improperly and lost its liquor, duck that was too dry, and slightly too much salt generally.

Yangs is truly a gem. This might be the inspiration needed for me to get back there tonight

So ebeth finished her PhD. and got a job cooking here. So far she loves it.
Not sure how many of their customers speak Zapotec (the subject of her dissertation), but, knowing her, she will be speaking Mandarin or Cantonese within a few months. Her mother and I are looking forward to paying her a visit there.

No kidding! Congratulations to her!

Thanks! She is quite a girl. Sometimes her mother and I look at each other and say, “We must have done something right in spite of ourselves.”

Sorry I meant to thank you personally but hit the wrong key and wound up in impersonal workarounds, “You have already posted this…”
