Fair - that and Mirate are the closest to what I’m searching for. Nossa’s a weird one, very hit or miss on a week to week basis, I think they keep going through staff so quality control is all over the shop.
Continuing this digression but I’m curious to see: if Echo Park can now sustain enough of these places (and if landlords could just suck a little bit less), it might be the answer here. Bacetti, Tsubaki, Ototo, Lonely Oyster, Gra, and new entrants A Ti, Hummingbird, butchr bar, Dongame. Not to mention the new beer garden and Thunderbolt. Not all necessarily within walking distance from each other but there’s plenty of density and overlap there.
I still can’t believe Needle is gone.
Re: Los Feliz. I love that area. Cool bookstore, retro movie theatre, grocery stores, Maru coffee, old school diners, close to the park and observatory. Wouldn’t mind living there well maybe…
I would probably be eating most of my meals in nearby Thai Town or Koreatown lol. Than the parking situation when I get back if I don’t have a reserve spot I gotta circle the block or park further out. Than I have to check the signs so I don’t get a ticket and remember the intersection I parked at . Okay the next time I go out I’ll just find somewhere close by. Check Yelp. Check FTC. Damn. It all looks meh. You can’t live on those Yuca cheeseburgers.
Atwater too, right?
Yeah, I’ve rented here for a decade just off Hillhurst, and that’s exactly it - it’s depressing to have to get into the car pretty much anytime you want to eat something good.
ooooh Dongame! Anyone got insights on this one? is there already a thread?
Oh yeah not bad for a small area
Holy Basil, Morihiro, Tacos Villa Corona, Dune, Proof, Tam O’Shanter, Wanderlust, Club Tee-Gee, Bigfoot Lodge, Bon Vivant, The Morrison (they have a dog menu!), some others I am probably missing.
Farmers market on Sunday, coffee shops, record stores, book store, comic store, close to the park/observatory, a playhouse (I need to watch more plays this year!), close to Glendale/Pasadena/Silver Lake. Wouldn’t mind living in one of those old charming bungalows.
Barra Santos has reservations on resy now.
gamechanging for me, specifically (a 15 minute drive away from them)
gamechangingly bad for me. lasita did the same and now i go about 1/5th of the amount that i did. are there any good no resy spots in la?
Found Oyster. Though Found, like Barra Santos, is also a Last Word restaurant, so I wonder if they’ll be rolling out reservations as well.
Ototo?
Agreed about a reservations. 75% of restaurants shouldn’t have them imo
Do you only like No Resy spots? Tribute to Bourdain?
FWIW, I cant stand no resy spoys…especially if I have to go far, then wait.
Ototo is so great but I am in fear all the way there (from UCLA area) that I will be waiting (at least they let you drink on the sidewalk). Found Oyster is a (sad) pass for me unless I go at a really off hour.
I’m a very spontaneous person, mediocre at planning. So I love the ability to finish work on a Friday and decide I want to go to Lasita or Barra Santos.
Obviously I don’t want an hour wait, but I’ve no problem killing an hour with pals while sipping on wine. (Nice thing about Barra Santos and Lasita is they have decent spots to drink and hang.)
To me, that trade off of waiting is entirely worth the ability to decide on a whim that I want a certain meal!
I’m also fine getting skunked, lol. If the Lasita wait is two hours, I’ll go get a burger at Amboy or go to Steep or something!
Ototo probably is the best. Sam’s Place is another addition. Great early on weekdays.
