Epicurus Gourmet (North Hollywood) - The New Epicure Imports

Hello @rohto. Yes I have. I love them too! Although I do gravitate to Lou. His Croissants, Quiche, and pastries keep me going back almost weekly!

Don’t sleep on Lou’s pan bagnat.

That tuna sandwich is one of the things I miss most about not working in that neighborhood anymore.

@attran99 YES! Love the tuna and also the salmon bagnat. The chocolat almond croissant is also very addictive. Oh today is Friday, perhaps a good day for a Lou the French on the Block run!!!

Darn that explains the empty cheese and frozen fridges on tuesday. Don’t know which day is their restock day.

Whichever day it is, it apparently hasn’t happened in nearly 3 wks. :frowning:

From what I have gleaned several weeks ago Eric, a money partner, Hillary, and the staff discovered that Kevin had the locks changed on them. No details as to why, except it was not a friendly gesture. Things have gone way south since then. Inventory depleted. Place is dirty. Staff is not great.
Crap. This was the brightest source for cooks in LA. Now it is a sinking ship.

I was there today, plenty of selection. According to the manager part of it is that there was a viral tik tok video that has depleted their stock. Apparently they are working to stabilize the stock now.

oh gosh, that doesn’t sound good @ebethsdad

I truly hope that it doesn’t sink. I have become so spoiled having them close by (I’m in Studio City) for so many of my go to culinary delights. From butters, oils, vinegars, tinned fish, duck fat, sausages, cheeses, hams, chorizos, jams, pastas, mustards, cookies, oh my… my list can go on and on as your probably does to. I intend on going by there next week to see if products are being restocked. UGH, with the holiday season in a few weeks I need them to be restocked!!! :expressionless:

Thank you for the update! I will be going by there next week. Did you notice the change of management if this wasn’t your first time there?

Any updates? Was planning a trek out there this weekend… but not if the shelves are empty!

Last time I went shelves were not empty, but many of the usual items were AWOL. No hand cut and packaged items such as mortadella or Parisian ham, the cooking fats were severely depleted, and wagyu beef, etc. I will stop by today and update.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Shelves not empty, but the cheese inventory looked depleted compared to what I was used to seeing. I did ask a basic “what’s going on?” question. Summarizing his response, there was a clear fallout with the previous folks running the day-to-day operations (no specifics, and I didn’t think it was my place to pry for details). He also mentioned plans to add checkout stands instead of the office checkout they currently have, so I saw that as a good sign. One thing I did notice was that the tinned fish selection was more extensive than I’ve ever seen there.

Just returned from there. Inventory seems fine. Shortages in cheese, charcuterie, and frozen meats. The first holiday stock was being unloaded while I was there.
It’s worth a trip. I won’t shop there as the old staff are my friends, but it still a good resource.
