had 5 seconds worth of business in industry yesterday, and made it into a worthwhile ninety minute trip by adding on a late lunch at luyu dumpling. we got there around 2pm and didn’t have to wait for a table.
and unlike @PeonyWarrior, we had an eerily quiet dining experience: no phones ringing, no music playing, only very subdued conversation. it wasn’t until a family with some kids on their devices sat down next to us that the calm was broken. one of the kids, maybe seven or eight years old, was watching classic simpsons on his ipad; more charming than chilling.
anyway, the food.
this pancake hit the table first. i am 100% confident we didn’t order this, and it turned out to be an unexpected hit. i think it was a rice noodle with a thin omelette on top. the rice noodle texture was bouncy and fresh, and the egg had a nice bit of flavor from the scallions.

dumplings. pork & leek. i could’ve eaten ten more. loved the chew of the wrapper. not soggy at all. the filling was just on the edge of completely homogeneous, but you could still detect little bits of this and that. bite off the top, pour in a little black vin.
///
cucumber salad. fantastic. salty. garlic. the cut+smash technique provides unparalleled texture.
///
scallion pancake. i don’t know why, but i always feel compelled to order one wherever they’re on offer. like mel gibson in conspiracy theory, but sub scallion pancake for salinger. this one was good. i haven’t yet had one that’s transcendent. but i’d order this one again.

you po mian. i would’ve skipped this if i hadn’t seen the positive reviews above. it lived up to the hype. the noodles were perfect. the toppings were lightly fried without too much oil saturating the rest of the dish. it hit the table late, i was already full, but i couldn’t stop eating it.
