Is anyone familiar w/ “Major Dumplings” in Diamond Bar. When we picked up food from Northern Cafe in Brentwood last night, the bags said “Major Dumplings.” That bag has been “active” for our last few to-go orders, but the utensil carrier, for the first time that I recall, had an address in Diamond Bar.

Just wondering if anyone knew what the connection was…

From end of June but I believe there’s a newer Cantonese restaurant in the Pearl Plaza that also houses Eat Joy Food (edit: in Rowland Heights). I’m not sure how common this dish is but really enjoyed it!

You can ask the staff to mix it up for you or do it yourself. Really great! I can’t recall the name of the restaurant unfortunately. Based on what I see on Google Maps, I think it’s Sunjow Cafe and the dish might be Rainbow Chicken? Other items were nice but I thought this one was memorable enough to post about.

That looks awesome reminds me of a goi ga I had in Dong hoi. Never seen anything like that around hk

Fish fragrant “pork” and tomato “eggs”. I wish I asked what they use for the “eggs” because this is much better than the firm tofu I use at home. The spicy dishes here are really good.

Might try to make it out tonight

Aipapa. Menu.

Lanzhou Liangpi. Haven’t check the menus at 1919 and Lan but this might be one of the few or only places doing it this style. Add this on your list for a cold noodle dish in the summer.

Lanzhou Potato Noodle.

Live music! Someone was playing jazz guitar when I went. The owner plays the sax. What other Chinese restaurant in SGV is doing live music. Aunties karaoking at a banquet party don’t count!

Open until 11pm!!!

Sorry but Aunties karaoking does count

had 5 seconds worth of business in industry yesterday, and made it into a worthwhile ninety minute trip by adding on a late lunch at luyu dumpling. we got there around 2pm and didn’t have to wait for a table.

and unlike @PeonyWarrior, we had an eerily quiet dining experience: no phones ringing, no music playing, only very subdued conversation. it wasn’t until a family with some kids on their devices sat down next to us that the calm was broken. one of the kids, maybe seven or eight years old, was watching classic simpsons on his ipad; more charming than chilling.

anyway, the food.

this pancake hit the table first. i am 100% confident we didn’t order this, and it turned out to be an unexpected hit. i think it was a rice noodle with a thin omelette on top. the rice noodle texture was bouncy and fresh, and the egg had a nice bit of flavor from the scallions.

///

dumplings. pork & leek. i could’ve eaten ten more. loved the chew of the wrapper. not soggy at all. the filling was just on the edge of completely homogeneous, but you could still detect little bits of this and that. bite off the top, pour in a little black vin.

///

cucumber salad. fantastic. salty. garlic. the cut+smash technique provides unparalleled texture.

///

scallion pancake. i don’t know why, but i always feel compelled to order one wherever they’re on offer. like mel gibson in conspiracy theory, but sub scallion pancake for salinger. this one was good. i haven’t yet had one that’s transcendent. but i’d order this one again.

///

you po mian. i would’ve skipped this if i hadn’t seen the positive reviews above. it lived up to the hype. the noodles were perfect. the toppings were lightly fried without too much oil saturating the rest of the dish. it hit the table late, i was already full, but i couldn’t stop eating it.

$37 after tax and tip, enough food to feed 2 adults, and we left with enough leftovers for .75 more meal today.

Yes!

Glad you got to try the noodles and dumplings! I don’t think there is a better dish under $10 in LA atm.

Y’all need to get here!

Those braised bamboo shoots was fire.
Perfect balance of umami and sweet that Shanghainese people love. Relatively small menu that goes pretty hard. I think this is literally a mom-n-pop restaurant. You can watch uncle work the station. Check out that tofu with crab roe sauce and the soups. Might be a menu worth exploring with no Sichuan fillers.
