There are at least two others in the Valley. It’s a fun restaurant to get a cheap drink. They do not have a full liquor license but they make huge margaritas with agave wine that are fine for the price. Families like to go there when it’s someone’s birthday. Been twice and both times had multiple parties and the entire staff brings out instruments and sings.
I’m a regular at North Hollywood - Sherman Way (probably been there 100 times in the last 6 years LOL., and a strong proponent on this board. I lived near the lake balboa location but still made the drive to North Hollywood, which imho is WAY better plus has two full bars.
This new location on Vanowen, just looked so strange when I saw it in June. It looked way too small to be a restaurant, but then again lake Balboa is a tiny location too.
Oh my! I missed the part about you being a regular of regulars… haha. I need to try your location, sounds even more fun than the one I’ve been in Lake Balboa.
I can’t think of any restaurant in the SFV other than Apey Kade (Sri Lankan) that I have a desire to return to. That food is good, and you can’t get the same thing in LA.
The meat is much smokier, you can actually drink hard alcohol there, and it’s a really big place.
Parking is the only downside. You have to queue and they let you into the lot when a space opens up.
What are wait times like these days? I have never had success.
I know it’s not easy for most folks, but after the lunch rush is most consistently easy time to get seated.
That said, weekends at dinner are just impossible. During the week, i rarely wait over 30 minutes for a table of two.
Used to use waitlist app for time guesstimates. But they were absorbed by Yelp.
So driving around, I discovered YET ANOTHER Salsa & Beer location. It’s down the street from the one in North Hollywood. This one is on Vanowen, one block west of Lankershim. They’ve been open for about five months, and are a full restaurant, but they do not have a full liquor license, they only do beer and wine and drinks made from beer and wine. Like the one in Lake Balboa.
Also about 5 months ago, They opened that one on Vanowen near Coldwater, but that one I think is a take out only place.
Wow, they sure love Vanowen Street since they have 3 locations on it.
Reminder, the NoHo location, the big one on Sherman Way has two full bars and hard drinks.
The Salsa & Beer empire continues to grow.
Are they open now for takeout??
oops sorry. see that big ass sign in one of your pictures!
I tried calling the OG NoHo branch and was not successful today
What do you mean? Didn’t answer the phone?
I know this is a little off topic but we are driving from Brea to Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Approximately 2:15 drive. We are going to stop at Pizza Wagon for lunch but it looks like they are not allowing dine in. My kids will not make it almost 3 hours without a bathroom. Are there any places off the 101 in the Calabasas area with restrooms we could use? I’ll happily buy a drink or ice cream.
No dine in doesn’t necessarily mean that the bathroom in the back won’t be open. Just give em a call and see first. I’ve been to many restaurants that are closed to dine in but their bathrooms are open.
I think there’s a Gelson’s in Calabasas. There’s def one off of Hayvenhurst near the 101 in Encino.
The former Ladyface Alehouse, now called Tavern Tomako, https://www.taverntomoko.com/, is in Agoura just off the 101 and Kanan Rd. They no longer carry house made root beer, but they do serve Fever Tree beverages (really good ginger beer) as I assume you won’t want a beer if you are driving that far. Depending on your schedule in Santa Barbara Cold Spring Tavern, https://www.coldspringtavern.com/, a favorite of @Nemroz and myself is open as well now. Its a lovely, fairly short drive from Santa Barbara.
In-N-Out Burger, Westlake VIllage. Right off the freeway.
Should we be talking more about Anajak?
Pizza Wagon had one person dining in their dining room on Wednesday evening. I saw this happen during my pick up. The person had 3 slices on this table and was reading from his phone.
Ladyface is gone? I don’t think I knew
