Funzi pizza. A very solid NY slice. Great pepperoni. Nice touch with the fresh grated parm on top. A little soft in the middle. An excellent slice. If I lived nearby I’d eat this pizza often.
Aces Pizza at Rock Center. A nice light airy Detroit style but I wish they had some more sauce other than the stripe down the middle and pepperoni was crispier. Still a good tasty slice. Thought it would be much doughier and filling but I felt great afterwards. This is the personal size which was $10
Excellent pizza. Bread sampler was oversold to me. Bread was fine but not fresh hot out of oven. The butters were very good but not worth the carbs. Lovely meatballs with sauce. My favorite pies were the sausage, tomato pie and mushroom. The hazelnut pie was oddly sweet. Would I drive back 30 mins from the city to Razza again? Not sure you couldn’t get equally good wood fired or coal fired pizza closer like John’s of Bleecker or Grimaldis.
I had a slice at Funzis at 4pm. Dinner at Razza was at 9:15pm. So in between we went for a “snack” at Craft.
Octopus was tender and beautifully cooked. Is it me or does every preparation of octopus have to come with beans, potatoes and heavily paprika seasoned?
Also hit S&P Lunch in Flatiron. Egg Cream and a Pastrami sandwich. The vibe and format is really fun, the food solid and unfussy. I may have erred in not ordering a reuben. Not life changing but cool rebirth of an old school New York type place.
And then finally Lucia Pizza of Avenue X and now SoHo. A good slice, night quite L’Industrie (which has opened in the West Village on Christopher *as previously mentioned by @JeetKuneBao !). As mentioned in another thread, I loathe this grated fresh parmesan on a New York slice.
Guess I’m becoming this. There’s something about the nuttiness of fresh grated parm on a New York slice that doesn’t work for me. It also feels like gilding the lily/fancification for no reason and is probably the influence of Insta/Tik Tok.
Utopia Bagels will have a midtown location on 34th x Lex. Smart move.
Lots of tourists on 34th for the Empire State Building. Alot of them will be searching for bagels. Midtown workers. Close to the train station on Park Ave. Close to Bryant Park/NYPL. No real competition. There name is mentioned on the best lists but probably losing tourist money when they see it’s out in Whitestone Queens.
This place is very good. King Fu Kitchen. I think it used to be called Kung Fu Little Steamed Bun Ramen.
Hole in the wall Chinese right outside of Times Square. Very brisk takeout business.
Walking across 34th to get fish at Russ & Daughters then back to midtown for bagels at Utopia. I can see myself doing this later in the summer/fall. My NYC office is on 46th. Get some steps in the morning.
