June 2025 Rundown

Jerusalem Chicken falafel pita.

I think I can confidently say that Palestinians make the best falafel sandwiches. The pita, sauces, and veggies at the Palestinian spots makes them so much better than anywhere else.

Very good but still like Sababa in Little Arabia better.

One of my all-time favorite dishes is Nasi Lemak, the classic Malaysian national dish.. headed to Ipoh Kopitiam for some super solid nasi lemak - wish they put more anchovies in the dish though, that’s the best part! Usually go with chicken curry but you also can’t go wrong with their rendang curry beef. Delicious!

Went to the James Beard nominated Evil Cooks and tried their Poseidon taco - black octopus, salsa tatemada, pickled onions, cilantro, guac, grilled pineapple. The burnt salsa and smokiness work real well with their pulpo al pastor. Delicious and I’ll definitely be back here for their green chorizo burrito and more (aka I know I’ll get the strawberry chorizo cheesecake taco but I don’t wanna admit it)

Stopped by Appolonia’s because I had time, and since I had time, holy moly I have never waited that long for pizza before, that’s also on me for going on a weekend. I had pepperoni square with burrata, and regular cheese with burrata. I actually enjoyed the regular slice more, surprised it had as much flop as it did but both had an enjoyable and nice baguette crunch crust and the flavor of the burrata combined with their sauce after your fold it is real nice. Did not think Appolonia’s Detroit style was a stand out over other pizzerias with Detroit style I’ve personally tried but it was solid

Lastly, an al pastor burrito from Tacos Tamix - can’t go wrong

I love Tacos Tamix. I usually hit the one on Pico by La Brea. Cheap and delicious. There is an al pastor street vendor on Pico & Hobart that has seriously good and sizeable burritos. My last Apollonia pizza (the Wilshire) was sub par. Hoping that was an anomaly. Need to get out to Evil Cooks.

I gotta get on this. I can never move past the chicken & rice plate smothered in that lemony, garlicky sauce. :face_savoring_food:
