Konbi - new location (Culver City)

I went to Konbi to eat all their new ice cream, for science. New ice cream shop in town, watch out

Sunday’s 7 flavors, perfectly creamy!

  1. Pistachio (vegan)/Santa Barbara Pistachio *creamy texture for vegan ice cream, nice flavors with the lowest sweet level in the group and a bit of savory notes in the nutty aftertaste.

  2. Hōjicha or Houjicha/Honey Caramel Swirl, Milk Bread Brittle *incredibly caramel (burn butter) flavor and fun texture. It could has been No.1 with just a bit more tea like and less sweet.

  3. Yuzu Sorbet/Candied Yuzu Peels *bright and refreshing citrus with super nice texture and fun texture, just a bit too sweet but the acidity is just right

  4. Corn :corn: almost as fun to eat as the Hōjicha, one of the four sweetest flavors.

  5. Golden Raspberry Sorbet: refreshing, more acidic than yuzu but also sweeter, equally sweet as the corn flavor.

  6. (and 7) Vanilla & Chocolate: delivered whatever they should, on the traditional sweet side, nice and creamy. I’m not a chocolate person so don’t ever trust me on anything lol

**You can get 2 flavors in one cup, no sampling. Pint togo availability ain’t guaranteed so check ahead. Get a neutral bite for palate cleanser (eg: a plain croissant) with coffee or tea for ice cream tasting lol

You can watch their pastry chefs in this beautiful window and see all the nice stuff in the new space. It was my first time try their croissant.

I wanted Hōjicha, Pistachio and Yuzu Togo but they’re sold out. Call ahead if you plan to get pints maybe. Register lies, I don’t want Raspberry, Yuzu won!

Sunday is the best day to park around Sony Pictures Plaza to visit Konbi in Culver City for me. Lots of street parkings.

Just had a few sandos plus the corn+peach ice cream for breakfast at Konbi 2.0 last week. The sandwiches were not as on point as the ones at Echo Park (tonkatsu was too fatty, egg salad underseasoned, and bread was just a tad too dry), but they are getting used to the new digs, so it’s understandable.

Bright spot: Their hojicha latte remains phenomenal. I shall be back to sample their wares again in a month or two… Want to see these guys succeed in Culver City.

Does the 28$ a pint Pistachio Ice Cream come with a side of crack cocaine?

Pistachio is expensive and so does other high quality ingredients, unfortunately. Topped with inflation…

Noticed that difference on the bread too. A little dry, less pillowy. But…it’s 5 mins from my place so I’m happy

Also went to Miles Thompson’s pop up at the echo park space on Sunday and it was a 10/10. Unreal and 125$ including service…busy work week but will try to do a write up and photos at some point
