Las Vegas recommendations

I really enjoyed pizza rock Las Vegas. It seems gimmicky but the pizza is high quality and it’s on par with prime pizza in LA

Glad you liked it!

It was surprising to us that one shop could do so many styles well…especially a place that looks like a chain designed to entertain.

Yeah I agree but I was pleasantly surprised. Tony gemgamani really knows his dough!

Was at CES last week. Superfrico is a bit much for me. The food was good but certainly a notch below Carbone and Sinatra. Not to mention they just opened Mother Wolf. The show with people swallowing razors and walking over broken glass is not my speed. We had family style meal to try everything. It’s fine but not somewhere I’m going back.

Zuma in the Cosmo was much better than expected. Clients took us out and we got the omakaze which was a nice mix of sushi/sashimi, robata and some composed dishes.

Smoky Japanese whiskey drink. Very smooth very smoky.

Raw fish stuff

Corn and mains. Ribeye was delicious.

Fun quirky dessert plate with something for everybody.

How does this compare to Morihiro and other LA tops? I’m trying to figure out where to take my mom for the one night we’ll be there next month and as I’m rarely in LV these days I need to be choosier than usual.

Have not been to either Morihiro or Kaneyoshi. I think Kabuto and Yui are both very good. I would compare both to a place like Ohshima in Orange. My guess is Vegas best is likely a small notch below LAs best but also not as pricey.

The last meal at Kabuto was much more recent vs this meal at Yui 5 years ago.

Thanks for the input…with the two being somewhat potentially underwhelming I’m now considering just taking her to Vetri but lmk if you have some other suggestions!

Heading this way soon for a Sun-Tue trip, so no Solamente Pizza for us…he would have loved it.

Might bite the bullet and try Lamaii Thai in Chinatown in lieu of LoS. The crispy prawns look legit. LoS reservations not aligning with my current plans.

Not sure where else we’ll hit…as it’s not a trip for me. We may roll more casual this trip. Might check out Papi Steak since I know someone who’s working the kitchen and as an excuse to check out the Fountainebleu. Happy to entertain recs.

Yukon Pizza which is supposed to be very good. They are open on Sun-Tue, give that one a try!

Let us know how Lamii compares to LoS. The other place on my list that we haven’t been to is Esther’s Kitchen. I think they moved to a larger space in the Arts District.

How about Mother Wolf at Fountainbleu?

Double zero pizza gets good reviews. Jen Harris at LAT just posted about this place.

Where?

IG on her best things I ate this week.

Had an abbreviated visit to Mother Wolf in Hollywood. It was good. Will probably stick to patronizing the Hollywood location.

Thanks for Esther’s and Double Zero!

lamaii has really gone down hill for me. Each visit the food gets sweeter and saucier.

Bank also left to run another spot. Left the restaurant to his brother

Our quick trip to town was fun. Admittedly, we didn’t have as much time to eat around town as much as we usually do.

Yukon Pizza
Caught this after our drive in and before they closed for the night. Thanks, @hungryhungryhippos!
The sourdough delivers in a most delightful way and I loved that they had mini sizes so we could order more than one pizza. Also got the kale Caesar which was packed with anchovy umami.

Lotus of Siam @ Red Rock (Summerlin)
Strolled over for early dinner while we were in the neighborhood.
The location here is lovely. The decor budget and production value is high since it’s inside the Red Rock Casino and Resort.
We only got a few things.
The garlic prawns were delivered to the table dry…only for us to discover that the sauce was pooled to the bottom of the bowl with the cabbage garnish. Should have mixed the bowl. The fry on the prawns was great.

Salad for vegetable content.

Not pictured: king crab fried rice and soft shell crab

Oddities:
Wexler’s @ Aria - lox bagel sandwich was fine…it didn’t achieve the heights Bake & Boil in Costa Mesa hit recently
Eggslut knock-off @ Aria - the hash brown here was nuts
Pizzaoki @ Aria - the pepperoni was super greasy
Din Tai Fung - we like walking downstairs with zero to very little wait…the pork chop fried rice is great here
China Poblano - I have to have a salt air margarita as I stroll between Cosmo and Aria
Carbone - I love sitting at the bar here for drinks and some snacks.

How was their crust? The only time I had it was when they were still at the Vegas Test Kitchen and it was really crunchy but cornicione was devoid of any moisture so it ate more like a cracker.

Crust was good…I can confirm cornicione was not a cracker…crisp on the outside, but pillowy and sourdoughy on the inside.

They were running their winning Pizza Expo on special, but were well-cleared out by the time we arrived an hour before close. The square slices were gone and there was 1 type of NY style pie left.

If you like a hint of heat, they have chili oil to drizzle over your pie available.
