Las Vegas recommendations

A Korean kid who grew up in Queens with lots of Jewish friends in the 80s, moves to the OC and is deprived of appetizing joints. Can’t find a good bagel or any place that has whitefish salad out here. Sadelles hits the spot. Love the veggies but was missing onion. Bagel was much better than I expected but on the small side. About 75% the size of an appropriate NY bagel. Very good whitefish. A tad on the salty side but that might have been a combo of the very heavily seeded bagel and capers.
Very good for $17 on the strip.

Hattie Bs is great. Juicy. Good flavor but not as good as Howlin Rays but whose chicken is? Good crunchy skin very little grease.

The collared greens are excellent. Made with bacon so it has a different type of smokiness. Must order.

i gotta revisit since chicken on my initial visit was :poop: :poop: :poop: and mac and cheese was simply a gooey and overcooked mess.

Paging all taco maesters of FTC. Is Tacos El Gordo worth a visit? Are they specifically known for certain types of taco? @JeetKuneBao @attran99 @js76wisco @Ns1 @A5KOBE

No. TJ style tacos - Mexicali, Tire Shop, et al.

Terrible ordering system, super overrated.

Del Taco in Barstow way more satisfying.

Never been but my fiends who went to UCSD love them

@moonboy403 If you were absolutely craving tacos or needed a late night snack. But definitely not worth going out of your way for El Gordo. It’s the best taco near or on the strip but that ain’t saying much.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve searched for tacos while in Vegas. Sorry…not gonna be much help here for that.

Bang bang Bajamar x Carnitas y Tortas Ahogada Guadalajara north of the Strip.

What’s the play there?

Bajamar: Baja Tour Tostadas (3 variations of ahi), spicy octopus taco, marlin taco

Carnitas y Tortas: carnitas taco (mixto), torta ahogada

That actually sounds great.

Is that a must if I live only 5 mins from Carnitas El Momo?

Wouldn’t classify as a “must” but since its only a few steps from Bajamar I’d try the mixto taco. (Note: there are multiple locations for both spots, referring to the ones on Las Vegas Blvd.)

I would skip El Gordo and just grab some chorizo and/or asada tacos from Tire Shop here. I just had it Saturday and it is still fire :fire:!

How’s social distancing at Tire Shop? I’ve been craving it but they always had a crowd pre-pandemic.

They are pretty good and everyone wears a mask the three times I have been during corona. I never had any concerns. All the workers and customers are masked up and people keep a radius between groups when I was there.

Claypot rice anyone? @JeetKuneBao @A5KOBE @beefnoguy

steamed egg & some sort of pasta salad that’s super bland - Free

A touch salty but look how off-the-chart smooth and silky it is!

3 preserved meat (chinese sausage, pork belly, and duck) claypot rice
Yummy Rice doesn’t cook your claypot rice to-order since we probably only waited about 10 to 15 mins before this was served to us. I also couldn’t really detect any lard flavor either but it doesn’t matter. It’s still tasty! Rice isn’t mushy and fluffs up nicely.

Chinese socarrat in da house! It’s far from perfect but I still enjoyed it!

Remember to mix in the slightly sweetened doctored up soy sauce to amp up the flavor.

Btw do you like Nature Pagoda back home? Never got to try their pots

Nice! I love lap cheung in clay pot, all that fat saturates and infuses the rice. I usually get a version of this at Ping Pang Pong. Always looking for new places in Vegas these days, thanks for the shout out.
