After some MLS game we need some late night dinner - Montero Taco Truck. Very good tacos with homemade tortillas and a massive, fully loaded hotdog.
Taco plate 1 - asada, chorizo, pollo
Taco plate 2 - lengua, carbeza, carnitas, papas con chorizo
Hotdog Montero - bacon wrapped sausage, asada, queso, pico de gallo, avocado, cream

those tacos look very legit.
leo’s would not remotely hold a candle to those, just off the appearance of the tortillas!
Late night food options in the Outer Sunset area are pretty slim and so the only reasonable option was a slice of pizza at SF Hole in the Wall https://www.sfholeinthewallpizza.com on Irvine Street. Pizza was actually quite good only a little bit expensive but that’s a consequence of the no-competition situation close to midnight.
No Hangover Aloha - marinara, ham, bacon, pineapples, jalapeno

Have you been to Toyose?
Not yet but it is on the ever-growing list. One “problem” with those late-night korean places is that their portions tend to be so large that it doesn’t make much sense to go there as a solo diner.
You don’t like leftovers?
Actually not as much as other people tend to like it. We prefer to make or buy new food/dishes every day. Rarely happens for example when we cook at home that we make larger amounts to have leftovers
I don’t like korean drinking food leftovers.
Except for fried rice and sometimes fried chicken, good point.
Not too many options for a late night snack in Hayes Valley with the exception of Hayz Dog https://www.hayzdogsf.com A number of creative hot dogs, e.g. elote, banh mi etc. A few chairs and tables outside in the parklet but otherwise more of a takeout place
The Tramp - bacon, hayz special sauce, charred serranos, chopped onions, cilantro
A night of cocktails in Alameda called for midnight tacos at Mi Grullense Taco Truck https://www.instagram.com/migrullensetacotrucks/?hl=en on International Blvd in Oakland. Meat and salsa were excellent but the tortillas were clearly not made there like at some other places and just OK
Trio of tacos - lengua, carnitas and cabeza

Castro is one of the more active parts of San Francisco and so it’s no surprise that there are a few options for a midnight snack. Fratelli Pizza https://www.fratellipizza-sf.com is a newer spot on Castro Street (nearly across Castro Theater) with a larger variety of good thin crust pizza (and pasta etc).

Late night tacos at Taqueria Ortiz https://taqueriaortizca.com in East San Jose on McLaughlin Ave. Really enjoyed their corn tortillas which tasted much better than the regular commercial ones you get at many taco shops - not sure if they are made in-house. Meats and especially the camarones were very good - and it doesn’t happen often around midnight that you get your tacos served on a real plate.
Camarones, lengua, cabeza, birria de res

Plenty of places for a midnight snack on Polk Street. This time picked Uni Pizzeria and Grill https://www.unipizzeria.com/san-francisco Quite spacious place and quite busy late at night. Good selection of slices of pizza. Picked the Supreme Combo - not classical NY-style but more doughy and more heft. Overall quite enjoyable and pretty filling
Supreme Combo - mushroom, bell pepper, onions, black olives, pepperoni, salami, sausage

Looking for midnight pizza option in San Bruno, we found Seniore’s Pizza https://www.seniorespizza.com which is a small local chain known for their late hours. The pizza is NY-style with an overall good flavor. Quite large selection of pizza by the slices. Not a pizza destination but a perfect late night pizza place
Combination Special - beef, canadian bacon, pepperoni, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, black olives, garlic

Suavecito https://www.sfsuavecito.com is a popular taco place in San Mateo which this year expanded to Lower Nob Hill and has the advantage of longer hours. So it was a good spot for some late night tacos. The taco choices are a bit limited but well prepared. Would have been nice to have some house-made tortillas to get it on the level of some of the best late night taco places in San Jose. Interesting menu with some good options beside tacos for future visits
Pork Carnitas, Carne Asada, Beef Birria

Close to Grant Avenue in South San Francisco you will a small cluster of food trucks in the middle of the night serving different dishes to their customers ranging from tacos to crepes. Taqueria Nochistlan is one of them and last night we tried a few of their tacos - the different meats were quite good, tortillas typical commercial ones and unfortunately there was no salsa bar and the tacos come fully dressed. The salsa was good but applied too generously (and the same for all tacos) so that they tasted too similar in the end. There are more items on the menu which sound good for future visits
Tacos Lengua, Costilla, Pastor, Carnitas

After a concert at Levi’s Stadium, dinner around midnight was at Taco Genesis https://tacogenesisfoodtruckca.com in San Jose on Story Rd. Tacos were quite good with a nice spicy salsa. Hotdog mexicano was just OK
Tacos - cabeza, chorizo and al pastor

Late cocktails also always call for some late night snacks. We really liked the korean-mexican fusion tacos at Kogi BBQ when they started nearly 20 years ago in LA and are always on the lookout for similar approaches. Last night Kokio Republic https://www.kokiorepublicsf.com a late night Korean fried chicken restaurant in the Tendernob, was close by and had such fusion tacos. Good rendition but could have been a bit spicier. Surprisingly busy close to midnight.
Bulgogi Beef Taco - sautéed bulgogi beef, fried kimchi, pickled radish, kimchi aioli, corn tortilla
Fried Chicken Taco - fried soy garlic chicken breast, pickled radish, kimchi aioli, coleslaw, corn tortilla
