Leopardo - Hancock Park

These prices are absolutely insane for what this place is.

That soft cream and caramel is very reminiscent of the angler soft serve set.

I agree there can be a few permutations of items on this menu iteration that would make for great meals at a reasonable price point (relative to past averages here), but it does seem like it’s going to be a hard sell to the masses.

Interesting to note the price increases on the items that stayed… + ~53% on the caprese

…This just makes me want angler (1.0 OR 2.0) back

These prices belie the whole neighborhood joint vibe they were originally aiming for.

It basically is that set right?

I’m waiting for the one comma banana split

this honestly isn’t a menu that seems the least approachable. I miss the early days of this place. now with so many things in flux it’s a lot harder to like, at least on paper.

would go great with the 1 comma crab.

Pretty much, not sure what the cream is vs. the soft serve, the angler caramel is cooked with embers in the cream, and the salt is smoked. Assume it will still be pretty similar

It was $25 on Aug. 1, so up 16% in two weeks.

Lots of price talk here so can’t wait to see the Somni reactions. Entirely different restaurants with different goals, but top tier food is just flat out expensive these days.

It’s a place that sources superior ingredients and puts more labor into maximizing their flavor. How many other places peel their tomatoes? Also the chef previously created a Michelin *** restaurant.

16% price increase on said peeled tomatoes in 2 weeks.

Yeah, it seemed kind of modestly priced to me given the labor. I’d still order two.

I agree with Robert’s posts.

Leopardo is ultra-high-end casual dining–something I’ve never encountered before. The food I’ve eaten at Leopardo is among the tastiest food I’ve eaten in LA. I agree that the prices seem preposterous given the casualness of the restaurant and the menu items, but I think a meal at Leopardo compares favorably to other LA restaurants for the same per person spend.

Leopardo 2.0 is happening in front of our eyes…

The issue is even if somni is 500$ a pop I’m probably trying 10+ fun bites and dishes where here if I choose 4-5 dishes I’m already in 300$ for a pretty casual service experience where I’m in and out in an hour fifteen. I’m not averse to high cost for high quality it’s just hard to imagine the dinner I’d put together for myself here

That’s a fair point, especially for a ā€œneighborhood restaurantā€. You will also be paying $500pp if you want to eat at Somni.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think anyone using these forums is worried about the spend for food that’s worth it (or need explanation of who Skenes is), and we know Leopardo is worth it, as well as pretty much anything Aithor does. The talk is about the sustainability of the price point. Fwiw if I lived remotely close I’d be there weekly, at minimum

I think that’s right – I’m reading most of the criticism of ā€œLeopardo 2.0ā€ as being ā€œthis is bad business,ā€ rather than pocket-watching about what people should be spending on food.

Hot take: I don’t think Leopardo is worth it.
