Little Saigon Adventures

WOW - that made me hungry - and mad at myself for rarely venturing down to Little Saigon.

Went to old institution Quan Hop for a quick lunch with family.

Bun Ca Thi La - an already assembled relative to the very popular Cha Ca Thang Long/Cha Ca Thi La - has a very nice mam nem sauce that was way more palatable for me than some spots. Wish I got some more fish, but was still pretty tasty. Worth a try if you’re local/in OC, hard to recommend just this dish for any LA travelers.

Dong Hung Vien. Same plaza as Canton. Vietnamese bakery with lots of vegan options with pastries, desserts, banh mi’s, and coffee.

Banh Mi menu. Sorry for the potato quality zoom in with your fingers.

Ice coffee. The classic taste we all love but they are using Nature’s Charm condensed oat milk. Let them know if you want the vegan version.

Got the vegan lemongrass steak banh mi which I enjoyed very much!

Vegan ham and cheese croissant and coconut cake. Super coconutty!

6am-8pm everyday!

Hu Tieu Thanh Xuan is gone and has been replaced by something entirely new. I saw it from afar so not entirely sure what.

Menu looks tight and focus on traditional and some less common northern dishes. Looks promising.

Hu Tieu De Nhat (Garden Grove)

Found a meal after a morning visit to one of the local temples.

I love a dry, chewy tapioca noodle salad topped with shrimp and meats and seasoned with sauces, oils and herbs. It also great when you get a half mix with thin egg noodles. The soup on the side is a delight. Blanched bean sprouts and fresh dandelion greens give it extra texture.

It truly is tiny, but folks eat pretty fast and move out. The family running it is wonderful. Loved our meal and I will definitely be back.

Agreed. The kimchi store next door is quite a delight.

What’s an epic trip!! Thanks for sharing!

How’s the durian bánh pía? Is it worth $7/each?

Also, try to twist the escargots along their shells to take them out instead of pulling them straight out. It’s a big achievement when you can get the whole thing out including its tail-end. Taught by my dad :joy: Although, escargots at ốc và lẩu seem to have their ends removed to cater to all.

Hao Vi BBQ - Westminster

Located in the same center and Pho Thin, there roast pork might be the closest to Ruby Foods. The roast pork is moist, tender and flavorful. The fat nicely rendered and the skin crispy yet not hard. Delicious!

Edit picture added:

The roast duck was good, but definitely not upper tier. Haven’t tried the Peking duck yet.

Definitely check this place out. Is this OC’s answer to Ruby BBQ roast pig??? I think so.

Of course I had to get a bowl of pho at Pho Thin as well. No line on the weekend. Combo pho and side of tendon.
