Little Saigon Adventures

Saigon Vegan.

A mom-n-pop vegan Vietnamese restaurant.
As if you couldn’t tell by the name.

Portobello tenders. Really nice fry on these with a garlicky dip. Their most popular app. Rightfully so.

Bun thit nuong cha gio. The wife here makes her own chilli sauce and fish sauce. Classic dish suitable for a hot weekend.

Bun bo hue is also popular.

Pho Akaushi (Uncle Tom) moved to 1st x Harbor in Santana

Tap Hoa Tuoi Tho, new Banh Trang specialist

99999 Restaurant is a pho/karaoke combo!!! Open until midnight looks the karaoke starts at 9pm on the weekends per reviews I read.

Probably older aunties/uncles singing which makes it even better lol!

Club PHO! Someone go!

As mentioned before many of the new places are copying Kei.

At this point the Bo Luc Lac Saltado can be considered a new school Little Saigon dish

Just wanna say that I went to Phin Smith the other day (it’s a bit out of the way so usually I’m at Trung Nguyen Legend or Davien) and…it really is the best in class.

Yes indeed made in-house. Pretty good!

Phin Smith … really is the best in class

Right? That coffee is so good. I still go to Da Vien if I’m in the mood for egg coffee, but otherwise I now go out of my way for Phin Smith.

Update: Phin Smith now offers egg coffee, but only iced. I did not try it because it was too cold for iced coffee at the time.

y’all know Phin Smith sells crowlers right? And you can get extra coffee in said crowlers to make it extra strength.

Trung Nguyen Legend. Hot sua da with condensed coconut milk

Dong Hung Vien. I love the soft cakes here. The banh mi was a let down.

Carrot and Daikon curry tofu banh mi. This sat for a bit making the drive to Disneyland, parking, and walking thru downtown Disney.

Kept me full for most of the day!

What’s the second pic of?

Pho 101

Hands down takes the cake for largest bowl of pho I’ve ever had. Apparently it’s owned by family of the Pho 79 owners, but I can’t compare as I’ve never been to the OG. A side of oxtails is a must. Everything ranged from good to great. Only miss was their Sua Da. Didn’t have a chance to go to one of the coffee heavyweights out there unfortunately.

Props if you finished that!

In the past I would sometimes take that oxtail home for another meal with rice. Hardly a “side” lol

Nok’s Kitchen has moved to a larger location on Bolsa, putting it in range for bang with Ba Le, coffee at Trung Nguyen Legend or DaVien, or dessert at Bake and Che. And of course there are a billion other places nearby, truly incredible restaurant density.

Had the Yum Pa Muek (Octopus Salad) for the first time and like everything else there it is a banger.

We went to 99999 for lunch the other day and it was…made for karaoke lol

Banh khot vung tau. Much lighter and crunchier than banh khot lady and it’s an either/or shrimp/pork rather than both.

Did you participate lol?

I really love this place. I recently revised my article with a revisit and it surely makes me wish I can visit Vũng Tàu someday.

true dat - the banh mi chao is decent but would likely taste better after 3-4 beers here
