Lynda sandwich the bread had gone a little flat. I think that’s one of the downsides of not having a bakery within your banh mi shop and getting bread in the morning

Had lunch at SEN Vietnamese Cuisine this weekend. I’ve been here several times and it has become my go-to for northern-style pho. Both the pho and the bun cha Ha Noi were great, as usual. They had a new chao special that I plan to try next time I’m there on a cool day.

Hanoi Old Quarter (Garden Grove)
Had a nice bowl of bun cha Hanoi recently. Thanks, @hppzz, for the rec!
The portion size is huge. You get a ton of beautiful greens and bean sprouts, a nice pile of vermicelli noodles and a generous bowl of bun cha. In addition to 3 generous pork patties, there’s also grilled pork à la thit nuong swimming in the fish sauce broth.
I really enjoyed the flavors and the fresh veg. It was so generous that I was able to make 2 meals of it.
Would definitely return.

Just had Kim hong on Wednesday so good. My chow pup doesn’t like egg rolls and ate 3 large variety of types from pork/crab to taro and chicken

Bun rieu @ Bun Rieu Ganh. Only 2 items on the menu - bun rieu & canh bun.
The rieu is dense. I prefer it soft and pillowy. My mom used to make it the traditional way and it was a lots of work. @hppzz recipe is my go-to and I load it with tons of crab meats.
Anyhow, this is still good quick fix on a chilly morning.

Kim hong great crispy egg rolls. Perfectly fried not overly greasy. They actually put shrimp and real crab in the egg rolls in portions you can taste.
Don’t get the iced drinks lol I was really thirsty and immediately regretted.

First ever visit last summer I thought it was great. A followup visit this year (couple months ago) at the old location, it was so meh, I thought I lost my marbles. I feel vindicated.

New location. Old one is no more.
It’s wild that you can get the best bowl of pho ever and than the next time it’s the complete opposite. Consistency seems hard.
My unofficial non-scientific opinion is that the best bowls of pho tend to be in the morning and a few hours after opening.

I hate Yelp. After being Yelp Elite for 10 years in a row I stopped posting. Many of the reviews are from friends, families and competitors. You can always tell by looking at how many total reviews they have and how long they’ve been a member. Sorting through all the non sense is a pain. 1 star reviews bc the parking lot or bathroom are dirty? Don’t care. The only benefits of Yelp are looking at the menu.
I’m gonna try the new location of Pho 79 soon.

A tale of two banh mis over the weekend and today. Au couer Paris
Probably the worst banh mi I’ve had in recent memory no discernible sauce and cold bread which is mind blowing since they are a bakery. Very confusing, I assume they use their old bread to make banhmis and just put them in the refrigerator. Huge disappointment. Their baguette fresh was actually decent and their pate chaud is very good

I don’t understand their poor ratings? This is my fav banh mi shop in little Saigon. Homemade mayo, light airy fresh baguette. This one was bacon add pate, also had a dac biet which was equally good. Their home style viet deli meats are excellent

They need to franchise or open more locations. Their viet inspired coffee creations are excellent. Sesame sea salt viet coffee hit the spot it’s just sad because you run out so quickly as an 8oz beverage. I could easily drink two.

One time I was chatting with the owner and he was thinking about a second location! It’s just hard to find a good spot. That was a while back so not sure where things are at now. For now, it is an excellent 1 of 1 which I’ve come to appreciate more over time.
