resevations open
What is it?
Oh, whatever’s replacing Happie’s Handmade. Latest from Joshua Skenes.
pizza from skenes, but different from leopardo.
Sparse website with no menu, barely a mention of what the concept is (and not even on the main page, you have to go to the reservations page to see the log line “COCKTAILS & PIZZA BUT NOT LIKE YOU’VE HAD THEM”, whatever that means). No information about the chef. They don’t even have the actual hours: “5PM-late” come on give me a break! Is there another restaurateur in the world with his level of acclaim that puts so little effort into these basic “how to run a restaurant for dummies” sort of things? One might say such basic things are unimportant for a chef of such acclaim, but his recent track record suggests otherwise.
I have nothing against Skenes. I hope this place is awesome and if it is, I’ll certainly try it, but it’s just so baffling to me because these things are probably the easiest part of running a restaurant…
It’s soft open. I’m not sure you can make a reservation yet if you didn’t get a personal invitation.
We were going to Leopardo about once a week, but alas, no personal invitation. I desperately want the pizza!
I signed up on the Lynx website when it got posted about previously, and did get a special link for Opentable. All tables were already booked in less than an hour though and only a week was available. It’s a small place, so not surprising.
Enjoy!
No spoiler but Pizza they do this time is insane ![]()
Sadly, I did not secure a reservation, but it does seem like they were actually available.
just spoil it dawg
Yeah tables were available for a short while. I opened the link right as it came in. I’m not in LA this week tho lol
Damn, this ended up in my promotions inbox. Perhaps the same for some others
Pretentious, or what? It took some digging to get any idea what this might be. Invitation-only cocktails…and pizza? ![]()
It’s invitation-only because it’s a soft opening. Nothing very unusual about that.
He did cocktails and pizza at Leopardo.
I get the soft opening, and judging by the love on this board, there’s no doubt the pizza and cocktails are great. It’s the haphazard business plan and the seeming indifference toward customers that’s confounding.
Is the lack of info part of a general vibe he has/wants to give off?
I don’t see any sign of indifference. It’s just in stealth mode.
Skenes seems to be free to pursue his interests without worrying about the kind of business constraints other restaurants have to deal with. That suggests to me billionaire backers but who knows.
There was a chef in SF who some years back built out a full restaurant with furniture, linens, dishes, silverware, glassware, art on the walls, everything, that never opened. Still sitting there empty last I heard.
I think we gotta give Lynx a moment to actually launch and have a menu/announcement, etc. But I also guarantee when it does - it’ll THEN reflect Skenes indifference anyway lolol
Is he indifferent “just” about the business or about the customers (or both)? I’ve prob only read like 1% of what’s been written about him on here, but I assumed it was more the former than the latter.
