Majordomo - Chinatown

Majordomo dinner. All the smarties on the message board were right it was 45pp + order an entree. We went with the whole plate short rib. Also went with chickpea hozon pasta. Didn’t take a ton of photos.

Bings and fixings, greens plate, and tomatoes were delicious. Bs fries were awesome, raclette cheese hardened much more quickly than before. Dessert was ok.

Short ribs were disappointing, overcooked and not nearly as smoky/flavorful as previous. First two times we had it, the short rib was excellent. The beef fat fried rice was also poor. Rice on bottom was just stuck to the pan and the middle of the rice was a bit overcooked.

Service was pretty non-existent as it was all mgmt staff and it definitely showed dining experience wise. Also the ambiance of the patio was not inviting. The lights were very bright and it was a very weird vibe with each tables extra tableware and napkins parked at a spare table next to the guests.

Maybe give them some time to hit their stride again.

Thanks! i was planning to go soon but my wife is worried about the COVID rates. Hopefully the COVID rates start dropping, and we can go after Thanksgiving.

Oh, thought it said M-F only on the IG post. my bad.

We ordered delivery from there through Caviar, including the whole chicken (white meat with rice and dark meat with noodle soup). It was good; no significant drop in quality from dining in person.

Having been delayed going up north and seeing those new items on the menu, I did some takeout from Majordomo tonight.

Dduk Galbi Ssam

This ground beef and pork kebab was fantastic. I really loved the spiced flavor profile, and when wrapped up into the lettuce with some sauce and rice all in one bite :drooling_face: wow

Hamachi & Scallop Chirashi Bowl

I nearly missed this on the menu because it doesn’t standout without a photo, but I’m glad I spotted it. After really enjoying the king salmon rice bowl back in September, I was hoping for the same sort of magic. While it wasn’t quite as delicious, it wasstill slapped. The egg yolk was again the thing that really made this dish. Mixed together with the nori, furikake, and ikura, the yolk just bound everything together into a slightly sloppy mess that was a delight to eat.

It doesn’t look like it’s something available for preorder, so you might just need to scope out their DoorDash menu (for delivery or pick up) that day to snag it. It’s absolutely something that I’ll continue to order in the future when available and dining solo.

got the dinner version of the dduk galbi and it was fantastic as @rlw mentioned. one thing that stood out was the incredible jasmine beef rice, it was perfectly cooked and was like a less intense, but equally delicious, version of the beef fat rice that comes with the apl ribs. if the apl rice is heavy cream, this was more like a whole milk, less rich but you could eat more of it. it was also a nice complement to the dduk galbi and was even better mixed with all the juices and glaze. the zhug and kimchi cucumbers provided the necessary acid and brightness to cut through the fat.

@rlw, did your version come with jasmine beef rice?

really liked this too and reminded me of a baklava but with a fried wonton-like shell. classic dave chang, familiar but different.

I was very torn between the special weekend dinner version and the regular ssam version, because no, the one I got did not come with the beef rice. It was just plain jasmine rice—still a fine compliment with the kebab, juices, and sauces—but much less exciting.

(I went with Antico that Friday night, which was outstanding for its own kebab situation, but let’s hope Majordomo carries this offering into the new year)

Wish I could order from Majordomo, but fine and fine casual dining isn’t in my budget right now.

However, I found their Bing bread recipe online the other day. It was published sometime after May 2020. Looking forward to trying it in the coming months.
