Menus stayed the same and nearly triple in price
Selina is pretty legit, I live 2 minutes away from it and it’s been fantastic as an addition to the area.
Sora was “recommended” (whatever that means).
Sei was just robbed.
That is wild that Sei is not on this list. Pizzana, Mozza, and Bianco are not on the same level if we are comparing something similar. Not even a Bib. Sei’s tasting menu should garner at least a star right
I think Sei 2.0 hasn’t been open long enough. It’a been less than two weeks.
sei 1.0 should have gotten it.
Sora is listed at “$$$” in Michelin which I think is too many $ for Bib Gourmand.
Sei is in the guide at “$$” but no Bib for whatever reason
The Bib criteria are kind of fussy:
Bib Gourmand restaurants offer a full menu of a starter, main course and dessert, making it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for around $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).
That’s from 2021, price may have gone up. That’s not a full explanation since they don’t give Bib to every restaurant where you could get out for that price only if you ordered very carefully.
Interesting that Lynx, Mozza, Bianco, Pizzana all get bibs and Sei does not. I don’t think it can be price that’s the issue. Who knows? Obviously personal preference plays a role.
I’m shocked that Kali the steakhouse retains a star. And then Gwen loses the star? For me, Gwen >> Kali after 3+ visits to both over the past year.
Publicists and industry politics as always
Bib Gourmand maybe seems important because it’s also a symbol but there are plenty of great places in the guide that are just there
That’s what the Recommended is. Cotogna and Verjus come to mind
I could see at Sei inspectors liking a pizza per person rather than potentially splitting one for two people at the other spots with Bib
Sure, Sei belongs to the company of Dunsmoor, Bavel, Saffy’s, Funke, Gjelina, etc. which is not bad company to be in.
Lapaba a Bib, no way. Nancy has pull… And I love Sonoratown but how do they meet Bib criteria (no alchohol-they do have the backroom bar at the San Vicente location)? edit: Well, I guess if Pollo la Brasa (another fav) is Bib…
This 2022 article says:
Called the Bib Gourmand, this distinction is awarded by the MICHELIN Guide to restaurants offering three-courses for a reasonable price (typically US$50 and under).
This 2026 article just says:
… seven new Bib Gourmand spots join our MICHELIN Guide list of the best affordable restaurants. Blending convivial atmospheres, careful cooking and fair prices …
So maybe they just make a value judgment based on comparing prices. Who knows? They’re not transparent about it. They do have a lot of data to work with from inspectors’ reports.
I think they are about 80% good in their assessments. For example, Shin sushi is a * and Morihiro is not. Love Take San but there is a significant gap between them, with Morihiro (Mori San omakase version) being on a higher plane than Shin by quite a bit. Kali 2.0 Michelin star is strange.
Michelin could not review it because they could not get a table ![]()
i think morihiro’s new a la carte menu lost them the star.
Maybe Sei will now be easier to get into without the Michelin nod /s
Restaurant Ki and Lilo deserves a 2nd star in my opinion. I had better meals at these restaurants compared to some 3 star restaurants that I have been to.
1-star and 2-stars are hungry for advancement. 3-stars can coast.
I joke about that for Hayato
