Northeast Los Angeles eats

Some good bites here at a great price point. Favorites were Cameron’s salvaje and the pulpo. Not moved by the mahi. Also could use a salsa bar like the OG. Can imagine the summer lines will be long and hot.

I actually went also, and had a similar experience. Fried stuff was good, though overdressed with crema and guac - the double up on cold creaminess muted the flavors, would choose one or the other next time. Sweet potatoes were good, mushrooms were fine, mahi was not good, dry and meager with no advertised charcoal. Would go back for fried stuff but still not fully scratching the Baja itch.

Stopped by Sam’s Place the other day, finally around at a time that made sense

Not pictured is a quick splash of the “Sanguine” right before some vermouth, sloshy grapefruit to cut through the saucisson scooping up cornichon butter, the sourdough scooping up scamp sauce

Like Sam’s Place a lot right now. It’s gotten mellower, meaning I could get an inside table at 8 last night. Salad, sweet potato, steak is a good dinner

Hoping to make it in soon and try that sweet potato. Been obsessed with sweet potatoes since living in the South Bay. The Japanese markets has roasted sweet potatoes ready to eat and I always grab one to snack on

This is the superior ultimate snack

Tips for slowest nights?

you should be fine on a weekday right now that isn’t Friday. I think if you go around 8, that’s even safer.
