One bowl of noodles

I have tomorrow off and have decided I am willing to travel anywhere in Greater LA for the best possible bowl of noodles. Any kind of Asian noodles are in the mix. Would love any recs from this Board.

Lao Xi Noodle House - I like the cat ear noodles in lamb soup, but the wife noodles are fairly classic as well. Parents are a fan of the cold noodles and though I know you’re not asking for it specifically, the xian of the green scallion pancakes which may hit your texture/carb craving the right way.

Man. I totally forgot about Marugame Monzo.

I used to be the loudest cheerleader for Luv2eat’s jade noodles, have you had them recently? I’ve had two recent delivery experiences where the noodles were over boiled and had no chew to them.

I wouldn’t judge by a delivery.

If I had the time to brave LA traffic for a noodle quest - a few on my list are

Craving Ngu Binh for Bun Bo Hue

Would like to try:
Ramen Shack - SJC
Khao Soi - Chiang Rai LB

I’d likely try to bang bang bang all 3

Jade noodles (double protein with extra crab, char siu, roast duck) at Sapp Coffee Shop (Thai Town), and unfortunately not Luv2Eat, would be the current best play here…

Mao’Er (cat’s ears) pasta at JTYH (Rosemead)…

Clear broth Lanzhou-style beef hand-pulled wide noodles at Northern Cafe (Monterey Park)… (Order a Big Plate of Chicken as a supplement while you’re there!)

Has anyone been to chongqing special noodles or best noodle house recently?

Their noodle dishes were great a couple years back.

That’s what I was going to say, though I had it with chicken. Love a good khao soi. They make a good one at ST Noodle Bar, also in Long Beach.

since no one has mentioned it, the naengmyeon at yu chun in k-town, especially if it were 95+ degrees outside. then there’s northern cafe in MP. and a +1 on lao xi noodle house. there are a lot of good options now for well made noodles, but a place that was one of maybe 2-3 places worth mentioning over a decade ago, kam hong garden, is still going strong despite a change in ownership. the hand cut noodles are still good, but the new chef has a more nuanced touch when it comes to the sauces. the tomato egg noodle dish is better than one might expect. one of the other OG places, heavy noodling in the JTYH plaza, has a more rustic approach to their dishes. the last place, omar, had their big plate of chicken which IMO has been surpassed by the version at northern cafe.

Did the ownership change several yrs ago? If so, is the food as good as it was b/f?

Also agree w/ the rec for Northern Cafe Monterey Park (no relationship to the fast-casual chain on the Westside).

Not sure about ownership, but the food I enjoyed there on my last visit (December 2021) was as delicious as ever.

with apologies to every place in SGV and Thai Town, I would vote for Cassia’s cold sesame noodles with crab.

I’ve only been to Cassia once, and I remember the portions being… small. Is the cold sesame noodle decently filling for a single person?

That is a damn good dish too. Great reminder.
