Petit Trois

Easy parking on Sunday evening. Seems like almost everybody takes Lyft / Uber. Great weather for outdoor dining.

Carrot salad was great.

Beet salad was very good except a few pieces were undercooked.

Pâté was delicious with the house Beaujolais. Toast (Bub & Grandma’s?) was great, though buttered / oiled like that it wasn’t really right for the fatty pâté, so I ordered a baguette, also first-rate. Do they really make them in-house these days? Came out scalding hot.

Sole was a treat. Big enough for two to share, too much for one, which helps explain the steep price. Great with the Altesse, one of the lower-priced bottles on the list, especially after the wine warmed up a bit.

What was the cost on the sole?

I think $79 though the online menu says $89.

are they not “free” anymore?

I remember that as being the best bread & butter I’d ever had,
anywhere.

Maybe some baguette comes with some dishes? Bordier butter is fantastic.

they used to give you a loaf with butter when you sat down. i guess not anymore.

I think it’s better bread and better butter.

Checked the receipt, the sole was $79.

Ludo! You’ve let me down. Forgettable.

A solid French onion soup (but I’ve never met a French Onion soup I haven’t enjoyed)

The Escargots were doused in grease and simply too rich. Not worth the price.

The Omelette was just too simple and not light and delicate enough. The Big Mac as well was just too greasy. No finesse! Just a sloppy showing and frankly something Ludo would probably be disappointed by himself given his high standards.

You have to embrace bread. It’s what the “grease” is for.:hearts:

The omelette is always perfect. It’s supposed to be simple.

Snails are just a vehicle for garlic butter. Wrong thing to order if you don’t want to sop it up with the fantastic baguette.

If you hate fat and bread, of course you wouldn’t like the Big Mec. Ludo’s proud of his over-the-top creation.

So true. It’s a thing of beauty. Every. Single. Time.

is there something wrong with the OG highland spot? There are tables to book every day with no issues

I didn’t know they had started taking reservations. There’s a lot more seating than when it was indoor-only or outdoor-only.

Yes, i’m very confused. Even weekend is open. But I ended up deciding on Mozza instead.

Who complains that the portions are too big? I do think sauce on the side makes sense.

I would say the food, atmosphere, and service are all nothing special. I don’t know why I would go there when I could go to one of the Mozzaplex restaurants across the street or Republique. For similar food, I prefer Oriel in DTLA, which is much closer to us.

Oriel in Chinatown

That’s cool. We all have our tastes and proximities. Oriel is nowhere close in food to Trois and if you look I’m probably the biggest oriel cheerleader here.

Both! Chinatown is a subsection of downtown, at least according to LA City Planning (Downtown Los Angeles Community Plan Update | Los Angeles City Planning – go to the draft plan and see the map), and the DCBID (Neighborhoods | Live | Downtown LA). The LA Times disagrees, though, so take your pick?
