My pictures came out terrible so no pics with this one but really enjoyed sitting at the bar eating solo. Ordered way too much stand outs were the Char Kway Kak -just a riot of textures and of course the skewers ordered some roti on the side of was fun playing mix and match with the 3 sambal’s.

Nice space, it was buzzing today

Alright friends what’s the move for a party of 2 here?

We were thinking

Gado Gado
One of the Satays (which is the winner?)
Which noodle? Between Char Koay Kak and Char Kway Teow
Beef Rendang

I would say it’s worth getting both skewers, they are different enough as well as small bites. Haven’t tried the Char Kway Teow but you won’t go wrong with the Char Koay Kak really good!

Had this order when I went with three (went with pork jowl satay and char kway teow) w/ the addition of bergedil (really quite liked this one - crisp potato + curry mmm) and left pretty full and more than satisfied w/ the flavors. Think I might’ve preferred the char koay kak over the char kway teow (not a hit on it, was nice to have a cleaner flavor profile w/ everything else), but I’m also just a sucker for textures and the others weren’t.

It’s good! Save space for the cendol sundae.

I agree — cendol sundae was probably my favorite thing.

Alright it slapped. We did gado gado (excellent), chicken satay (loved), char kway teow (Chinese sausage awesome, ratio of veggie to noodle was also nice), rendang (so good, the roti were insane) my only knock was the pickles with it hardly had any acid, they were more like crudite.

The dessert was sick.

So good we ordered it twice last week.

Finally got out to try and had a pretty good meal! I think my only complaint is a problem of my own making in ordering maybe a touch too much for my stomach and for my palate. Got a sambal sampler, the rojak, chicken satay, bergedil, rendang, and cendol sundae.

Disclaimer: Am Malaysian food novice.

  • The sambals were tasty and great with shrimp chips, the sour particularly standing out with its brightness/acidity that helped me cut through other dishes.
  • Rojak I really liked and helped balance out the rest of the meal for me.
  • Chicken satay I don’t think I’ve ever had with pineapple and that was a really nice touch!
  • The chicken curry was great with the bergedil but I think this dish is better shared as it definitely weighed on me going into the rendang. Also liked trying it with the sambals.
  • The rendang itself was great but the real surprise was the roti. Loved it! Think I agree with mzonelli that there wasn’t much acid in the pickled vegetables and could have used more of that to help balance the rendang out because it is rich and heavy. Sadly, I was fairly full by then and took most of the rendang home.
  • For the sundae, I missed all that red bean in the middle that you have to push into so definitely recommend poking around a bit to see where everything is.

Also, just a shout out to the service: Dining at the bar was a very pleasant experience and I’d definitely recommend.

Loved my meal last night. Only complaint was when I ordered a bottle of wine (a Gewürztraminer/Chardonnay situation ) and the server told me “if we’re going to order a bottle of skin contact, we’re ordering X (some Italian bottle.)

X was 15 bucks more and an entirely different region.

I had to awkwardly insist that he get me the bottle that I wanted.

But I’ll be back here often. Loved it, truly.

just had pretty much the same experience last night ordering a wine at Bacetti (massive downhill alert over there, btw).

Yeah, Bacetti is out of our rotation now.

WTF? They tried to correct/change your order with that tone? That is FU. As a former somm, I would suggest but never correct a customer’s order. Other than the $15, what is their incentive?

We had a delightful younger woman as our somm and she did not treat us that way fwiw.

It was insane, lol. The “we” pronoun was absolutely absurd. There was no hint of a suggestion. Had he been like, “hey, I know it’s 15 bucks more, but this bottle of X is my favorite thing on the menu. You might want to give it a try.” That would have been perfectly fine. Was with a friend who was trying to keep the meal relatively well-priced too, which only made it more awkward. Woof.
