personally, i like the rojak, gado gado, skewers, rendang, begedil, char kway teow. everyone likes the sundae, i prefer the passion fruit cream pie
Gado Gado, Skewers, Char Koay Kak or Teow. I like the Rendang but sometimes the sauce is too thin. Fried collar if they have it or any of the specials tend to hit.
…both desserts.
Mushroom curry clay pot, cendol sundae
We were there last Hainan Chicken night as well!
We enjoyed the Crispy Potatoes. They were so fragrant upon seating. Super crisp, end be bottom ones! A good size portion!
We also got the collar. I rarely order fish at restaurants as I don’t like Salmon and most preps aren’t that interesting to me. But when I heard this was Yellowtail and I saw on the menu it included a charmoula, I had to get it! It was so crispy!!! A good portion for the price!
The Hainan Chicken was succulent as always. I’ve had this all over the place, but this one always wins because of the rice. So much flavor in this rice!!
I am not a huge dessert person except for pie, but we got both because I do love Pandan. And the Sundae is indeed a winners. The flavors were so perfect. The red beans. The crispy rice stayed crispy!!
Thanks @attran99 for accepting my offer! It was so lovely. Anyone else want a Hainan Chicken buddy…. HMU!
Chef @JLee ’s HCR is the stuff dreams are made of. How I have missed it.
@PorkyBelly is right…the potatoes are such a great snack. I agree with @Dommy on the fried yellowtail collar…so delightful with the chermoula!
The sundae was just the right balance and reminded me of all the Vietnamese ches I grew up eating, but have only come to appreciate now.
Thanks to the Rasarumah team for their hospitality…and to my dining companion for the great company.
Going this week.
Hoping the crispy smashed potatoes are as good as the scrumptious but now departed begedil (potato fritter). I was so looking forward to it. ![]()
The sundae reminds me of my visit to Singapore, where I became obsessed with finding the best durian cendol. I really like desserts in that mold: cold, sweet, salty, creamy, savory, herbal.
Happy hour each evening from 5:00-6:00 PM. Beef roll - rendang in a roti. I loved the smaller portion of rendang as a post-work treat when you’re perhaps not ready to go for the bigger dish, though at the same time this was so tasty that I wanted to eat six more. And they’re not super-small, either. I had this alongside the rojak and that watermelon radish (very helpfully identified by the server) stood out as a great complement to the rendang’s richness.
We went for a third time. We are fans. Good food in a pleasant space at reasonable prices. It would make my 101 list. I wish LA had a lot more restaurants like this.
