Wow the sausage breakfast sandwich at A Cut Above is a lot but it’s really good
Holy Basil is still trying to open this month, dealing with landlord issues at the moment
Was Taylor’s Refresher pre-Gott at al distinguished?
It was a popular 1950s burger joint.
I believe Old JP’s closed pre-covid and it’s still shuttered. Insane how long some of these places stay closed; city should be able to imminent domain places after like a year.
JP’s reopened a block away. Not the same, though.
I see that Hermanito is about to open at the old Swingers on Lincoln and Broadway. Any insight?
That’s super exciting! Hopefully they have a full liquor license, we need more cocktails in SM ![]()
We usually go there for cocktails on Sawtelle while waiting for a table at Tsujita.
Another upcoming spot in SM: Florence Osteria Bringing Pizza & Vino To Downtown Santa Monica | Toddrickallen
Anyone been to Florence in Beverly Grove?
Oh, is this related to Bar Hermanito?
Went to Bar Hermanito once a few yrs ago. Thought it was… fine. Totally inoffensive, but also… kind of boring.
Yes, same team is opening the one in SM. I haven’t had the food, because I can’t pass up ramen if I’m on Sawtelle. But, bummer to hear it was boring. I wouldn’t risk spending $12 a taco unless I knew it was totally special (like Ditroit).
Courtyard Kitchen closed by health department due to vermin infestation
Noma remains one of my favorite lunch spots.
The lunch bento box is a great deal:
$19.95 2 items, $22.95 3 items, plus soup salad and rice. My favorite are the beef gyoza, shrimp/veggie stir fry and shrimp/veggie tempura.
Depending on which items you order, the quantity of total food ranges from adequate to a lot.
They announced an upcoming move to a new location just down the street at 2020 Wilshire about 9 months back (the building is being redeveloped). They anticipate it happening around September.
Go Get 'Em, Tiger on Main is now Bread + Butter.
I see they have a croissant. That’s gonna need to be f*cking amazing croissant to compete w/ the other bakeries in Santa Monica…
Maybe I will do a bang bang. ![]()
One thing I’ll say—despite getting their croissants from Chaumont, the plain croissants at Good Boy Bob do not compare to the ones actually at Chaumont or Petit Grain. Other baked goods still solid, coffee still one of my faves, and the fresno hot sauce I think stands up as one of the best across the southland
Any suggestions for a somewhat last minute res out this direction for this Friday evening?
Parameters: relatively short uber from SM, not too carb heavy (ramen), not a 9PM+ res (RVR, muse), taking a cousin from out of town so hopefully something uniquely LA inasmuch as that can be quantified, birdie gs/rustic under current consideration
Rustic Canyon
Gjelina - I see 9 PM right now, so not 9+
Farmshop
Osteria Verde
Tar and Roses
gjelina
rustic canyon
elephante? never been but many like it
cosetta (what is a relatively short uber)
Tar and Roses. Or for a different version of quintessentially SM/LA, Back on the Beach
