Santa Monica random updates

Seline and Pasjoli are open on Friday. Lots of slots available around 6pm, 8pm hours.

Same deal at Capo. Many potential celeb sightings at Capo (uniquely LA?)

You can also try Giorgio Baldi.

Good luck!

Thank y’all, will likely end up at RC or Gj, Capo could be cool but I couldn’t resist carbs there

I take everyone to Birdie G’s, but it might not be the atmosphere you seek. Elephante will wow your cousin in all ways.

Went to Elephante a few months back, the food was solid (good enough to go back), and the view of the ocean from our table was great (reservation says it was in the sunset room) definitely impressed the out of towners with me. It was also packed and had a good vibe! FYI - They also have a 3 courses for $40 lunch deal.

I tried Noma for the first time this weekend, based on this post. The underlying ingredient quality isn’t amazing, but the QPR is indeed fantastic, the fry on the tempura (per partner) and my katsu were really good, and partner and I will happily try this place again. I upgraded the box to sushi and sashimi for 2 of my 3 items.

Noticed a few tables took some of their bento home. HA! WEAKLINGS!

  1. Is anyone familiar w/ this place or their coffee?

Looks like they sell “real” food, too (incl banh mi!).

  1. Jonah’s Kitchen

Gets rebranded as Big Sur. According to Toddrickallen ( Jonah’s Rebrands As Big Sur Grill In Santa Monica | Toddrickallen ), it’ll be “live fire cuisine by Chef Philip Wojtowicz” (IG page looks to have been taken down).

Anybody? His meat porn on Instagram is pretty good. (Actually Marina del Rey.)

The bbq is very good–huge portions that are meant to share, which make the high cost semi-reasonable. I liked the honey butter cornbread as well. The line can get long and move slowly, though, and seating fills up quickly once the initial crush has ordered. Best to get there early.

I tried but I’m weak and couldn’t handle the line. Jon from Japanese knife imports did have some fantastic looking pictures of the food on Instagram story from last weekend I’d love to try the squab for sure

Wexler’s has closed its Santa Monica shop and is now available locally only for catering. A branch of Sua will be opening in that spot.

There was a Santa Monica Wexlers?! Had no idea

Since 2016 or so.

I’m sure! More laughing at myself for not knowing. Went to the Culver city location several times. Honestly didn’t realize that they were still in SoCal

Now it’s my turn to be surprised. They had a Culver City location???

My bad! I was confusing Wexler’s with Wise Sons the SF deli that was in Culver city circa 2012 :man_facepalming:.

Still didn’t know Wexler’s from the Grand Central market had opened in Santa Monica.

Wexler’s opened in S.M. in Spring 2016, so a significantly longer run than Wise Sons in Culver City (2021-23).

Are Layla’s bagels worth waiting in the long a$$ line?

I don’t think so, particularly since I prefer Jyan Isaac’s right next door.
