It depends on your preference. Laylas is more Focaccia like. I love it. But others are more traditionalists. For those, Jyan is right next door. Excellent Bagels. That is where we end up most because I’m married to a traditionalist and they also make other amazing breads…

These are Laylas:

??? :man_gesturing_ok: I 100% thought they were the same ownership.

Started seeing workers doing work on the interior for the first time on Wednesday. We’ll see what it becomes.

Anyone know what’s coming to the ground floor of the Proper Hotel in Santa Monica (where Onda used to be)? The space is normally dark, but, when driving tonight (heading back from dinner at Colapasta), the lights were on, and the curtain (which are normally closed) were open enough that I thought I could see bar shelves that appeared to be stocked. But I was driving, so maybe I didn’t see correctly.

Speaking of Colapasta…. They will apparently be expanding to the space next door, and that new space will focus on to-go orders. Wonder if they will hire another chef (I assume the current chef/owner basically does all the cooking, but I have no idea).

Worth a visit? I have never been.

Truthfully, no. I’m not even an oyster/seafood snob by any means.

I like it. They had a red curry mussels dish before it was everywhere that was always good, and a solid key lime pie.

FYI I received an email saying they launched $2 oyster specials now Mon-Thur instead of Tuesday only. Assume that will run through closing. It’s not flash nor luxe but as a place to slurp affordable oysters and IPAs for happy hour or to start an evening you could do much worse, I’ve been there a few times. And agree about the Red Curry mussels. Not groundbreaking anymore but also good with beer.
