Santa Monica random updates

La Condesa (which I never to) gets renamed and vaguely reconceptualized:

SanDiegoVille: La Conde Cantina Ending Run In San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter To Be Replaced By New Karaoke Bar.

Snippet: The Emme Group will soon convert both its Santa Monica and San Diego locations of La Conde to become El Rincon De Los Dolidos Despecho Bar. Dubbed as “the place to overcome heartbreak and passion,” the new concept will be a karaoke bar and Latin American restaurant.

Never stepped foot in that place. Always thought it was a front.

Any recommendations for a Sunday after Cirque de S dinner with family/teens that is good but not too expensive? Uovo is out due too having been recently, has anyone been to Burgette. What am I missing, wanted to do Luneta but they close at 3p on Sunday

Le Great outdoors also closed would have worked

Bludso’s, santa monica seafood, chez jays, win-dow, vamos vamos are a few thoughts that are close by and teen friendly IMO

Agree w/ Bludso’s and SM Seafood (don’t disagree w/ the others, just haven’t been).

Is Milo and Olive w/i the price range? Their food isn’t as amazing as it was when it first opened, but I think it’s still quite tasty, and they have an outdoor area in back that was fairly pleasant.

I really like Viet Noodle Bar, but partner thinks it’s bland. Blossom might work but not sure if seating arrangement there is good for a group (I’ve only eaten outside).

If Lala Rice isn’t too far east, I have enjoyed (most) our meals there. The worst I can say is that some of the dishes can be a little bland (but still well-cooked, if that makes any sense). Parking in that strip mall is painful, painful, painful, however.

Never heard of Burgette!

We do go to M&O a lot already!

For medium priced but still good, I’d say Forma and Misfit, in that order.

+1 on Forma. Underrated in my opinion. Portions are really large (at least for pasta), so while it may be the same price as other Italian restaurants nearby you get 30%+ more food.

Misfit, Chez Jay, The Galley, Hillstone, Sol Agave, Ivy at the Shore - all walking distance from The Pier, which is what you probably want - park once.

Maybe Penthouse at the Huntley?

So @KAS we tried Vamos vamos but it ended being closed (showed as open on Google maps) oh well another time. We ended up at burgette and they were nice enough to take a walk in 7 guests very nice all French wine list the best smash burger I’ve had in a long time (not my favorite style usually)

Sorry to hear it wasnt open! Crazy to me that they wouldnt want to be open for longer hours on a Sunday. Glad the pivot to Burgette hit the mark. Still havent been yet!

Pacific Catch has opened in the old space for 800 Degrees along Wilshire and 2nd:

It was either fairly crowded, or FOH was really good about seating people near the window.

Saw a “Diner Antoinette” sign outside of the old Ingo’s space. More info (not much) here:

I’m glad it’s coming back b/c I actually enjoyed the food and space (hopefully they haven’t done too much to the inside!).

Pacific Catch has one of the all time worst geo-targeted podcast ads. I skip it probably 25 times a day. “Foodie alert the Bay Area’s favorite…” skip…

Word on Nextdoor is that Earth Wind & Flour is closing around Valentine’s Day.

Driven past 1 million times but never been, worth going or does it traffic mainly in nostalgia?

Keep driving.
