What makes you think he hasn’t had offers?
Specifically, Sergio was cooking AT the abode of one our very own FTCers today, and that’s no April fool’s joke!
Is Sergio still doing dine-in these days? I am flying into LAX on the afternoon of the 18th for barely 24 hours, and staying very close by. Per Yelp he is indeed open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but I figured best to check here on whether the only option is takeout.
Do you know his hours these days?
Would also be interested in knowing them - there’s a comment on one of their instagram posts from a month ago that they are only open Fri-Sun, in which case I’d be out of luck on this trip.
“106’s flavor combinations will reboot your taste buds. Operated by someone who used to cook at Coni’Seafood, the place serves shrimp ceviche punched up with tart green apple and fish chicharrón in a sweet-savory sauce that tastes like nước chấm’s milder cousin. There’s a flaky whole grilled snook basted in a salty marinade and garnished with caramelized onions—clearly a nod to the chef’s Coni’Seafood days. And langoustines that sizzle in a sour-spicy-salty-creamy-who-knows-what-the-hell-it-is sauce. When we ate this for the first time, we spooned all of that sauce into our mouths like a parent feeding applesauce to a baby.”
Bold is mine. lol.
Yeah that was pretty shitty. He has a name. No one should just be “someone”. Sergio is one of the best mariscos chefs in LA for god sakes. I think Sergio goes back before Coni to Mariscos Chente
That’s correct. Incredibly disrespectful of Infatuation.
Infatuation (at least the writers for the LA one) reads like it’s directed towards gen Z teens.
The worst LA food blog on the internet in my opinion.
Also love the implication that Zarandeado was invented at Coni, like that dish is Sergio doing an homage to Coni. Couldn’t even be bothered to do the 25 seconds of googling that it takes to find out who he is and what that dish is.
I am disinfatuated.
Poor writing/editing. That was my impression on first read, but later in the article he highlights Zarandeado as one of the stand out dishes, so guessing more sloppiness than complete ignorance. Either way egregious.
And yes re: Gen Z @formersushichef. Feels like a transcription of a Tik Tok review.
So . Have any of you been to Sergio’s lately .?
I’d like to know the whole story of Mariscos Chente, Coni’Seafood, and Sergio.
It must be in the archives somewhere! Where is @wienermobile when you need them but I bet detective @PorkyBelly can find the post where it’s explained
some history from kevineats
