Trying to remember, was Original Joe’s up Geary from Union Square a bit? A regular when I worked at Un. Sq. Your meal(s) look great.

144 Taylor.

Thanks. Another senior moment. Many good lunches there. And IIRC ??? I had my first authentic Caesar salad there.

Outta Sight Pizza second location in Chinatown is now open.

Out in West Portal, George’s Donuts is getting popular

There was something Joe’s-ish on Geary up from Union Square. I went there with my dad in the 80s when he still ate Fettuccine Alfredo.

Via del Corso

Chicken liver crostone: delicious. Nice to have chopped instead of mousse.

Pappardelle with rabbit ragu: would order again. Maybe could have used a little more pasta and a little less rabbit, or maybe I should have taken smaller bites of pasta.

Tagliolini with Dungeness crab: delicate, good.

Pork chop with Dijon sauce and braised kale: cooked right. Could eat only a small portion after the liver and pasta.

Steak, ditto.

Given the large portions of veg with the meats we didn’t need to order the broccoli di ciccio. Good but took almost all of it home.

Poached pair with mascarpone and I forget what all else. Good though to my taste the pear could have cooked a little longer.

Fun meal. Friendly service. Overordered so took home lots of meat and veg. One of the best Italian places in the Berkeley-Oakland area.

That’s exactly what I’m remembering. Seems like there was a front area and a back area. Ah well, nice memory and goog food.

sfgate reports lines of 90 minutes? no donut is worth 90 minutes of waiting…

comparison against belotti?

the baklava at baklava story is exceptional, although i feel like the finer appreciation of baklava is a bit subtle: there is a textural aspect of the phyllo - it has to hint at a delicate crisp despite being doused in melted butter and honey - baklava story achieves this. they also manage the balance of sweetness perfectly.

It’s a lot easier to get a reservation at Corso. Different styes, you can eat very well at either. Belotti has some unique dishes.

Hon’s. Oh man a HK wonton noodle house is the last place I would think that would have one of the best green onion pancakes. Got some warm soy milk as well and plain congee spruced up with olives, soy, chilli oil, white pepper, and vinegar.

Coffee Movement. Vanilla rosemary latte. Very nice!

Lai Hong Lounge.

3.5 stars on Yelp?

Umm these were perfectly steamed and the sesame balls were hot and crisp. Lots of veg options which makes me very happy!!!

Lots of energy here with the coming Chinese New Year! Easily one of the top dim sum spots.

Possible relocation in May!

New school NYC style but with more interesting flavors/toppings. Got the vegan slice. Also squares as well.

btw, coffee movement now does barista championship competition-style ‘experiences’ - refreshes with new ones every month or so. have not done it myself, no judgment on the quality…
