damn, growing up, i used to go to Sue’s almost every week and get beef noodle soup. this is a good reminder for me to revisit.
Anyone been to Irori lately in MDR? If so, what’s good?
NAM Kitchen.
Lomo Saltado. Stir fried with celery was a nice touch. A bit of oily but good flavor overall.
Truffle Fried Rice. Fine flavor profile but Uncle Roger can make a video about the soggy fried rice.
Speaking of Sue’s here’s a beef roll from the other day. It doesn’t look good but tasted delicious. Clearly a hand made green onion pancake new chew and tons of flakiness, layered with thinly sliced beef and they sweet hoisin along with green onions and cilantro. So good
Pho redbo is becoming a mainstay for me, rare beef on the side with the side broth so clutch.
The pv mall is getting way better a new ice cream (with interesting home spun flavors), pizza place, and burger place just opened. Dilly ds burgers seem to be legit the milkshake we got today was pretty solid will be back to try burger and fries next time.
Tigres fuego chorizo breakfast burrito. Very good but I’m definitely partial to the bacon. The best thing thing about these burritos is the salsa and the tortillas
Have you tried Brothers Burritos behind Chase?
I’ve had brothers from years back when they had that small shop in hermosa haven’t been in a long time.
any good? Anything I should try?
Tortillas are from BLP
Thanks to everyone who recommended Hidden Garden Thai in Torrance- had some incredible food there recently and think it might be the best Thai food in the South Bay. The place seriously makes me think twice about going up to Thai Town when I get my cravings for real Thai food.
Unrelated, I want to put a breakfast burrito on everyone’s radar. It’s from Fantastic Cafe in downtown El Segundo (not to be confused with Eat Fantastic- the much hipper spin off). This spot’s breakfast burrito has excellent construction- outer later of hash browns with all the good stuff arranged on the inside. The cheese gets perfectly melted and you get pure flavors in each bite. I got mine with the eggs sunny side up- see pics below. They also have unexpectedly good salsa to accompany. It comes standard with three meats for around $15-16, but it’s huge and worth it. Give it a try.
What did you like at hidden garden?
We had a few, while they are all good I dont remember what really stands out. Extensive breakfast and lunch selections. The cheat code is to add spinach or cauliflower. And I add their green salsa on everything. Nice vibe. In case there is any confusion, I’m talking about the one close to PV Blvd.
Rieras still great. Wife has been getting the Redondo special which she loves. I prefer rieras special or the turkey usually
i spent a couple weeks in Torrance ~2 years ago, handling some stuff with my parents. i many sandwich places in the area. Riera’s was 100% the top of my list, for sure.
i still fuck with a few spots out of nostalgia (sup Guiliano’s?) even though they’re not the best or even great. i’ve always been a little split on Mickey’s, but it’s a local legend, everyone there is super fucking nice, and it’s a stone’s throw from the beach
Yeah mickeys is my default I’m at the beach sandwich def an og standby but not something I’m going out of my way for also great place to get a six pack also!
What’s good at Tasty China? How are the XLB?
Xlb are pretty good not blow your mind amazing but well made with no tears. I also like their xjb more.
things I would recommend ordering at tasty China include: xjb, cumin lamb, beef/lamb golden soup, braised pork belly, one of the dry pots, lions head meatball, house style tofu, salt and pepper pork chop (it’s a large portion it’s good but not my favorite kids love it tho).
The ti bong, pork hock looks good but I’ve never ordered it.
cool, thanks! the XLB - do they have appropriately thin skin or is it a bit thicker? I actually crave appropriately sized XLB, not the “poppables” at DTF…
I would say medium thick definitely not like dtf thin
Kimukatsu used to be on sawtelle but has been reincarnated in the van show sushi restaurant located inside the newish Tokyo central on pch. Known for their miellefeuile layered katsu, they were quite busy at lunch.
I thought it was solid got a curry and a regular. I wanted cheese but the wife did not. I think I prefer kagura more but it’s been so long since I went to kagura which I felt had a dip in quality so can’t say for certain.
Definitely scratches the itch and is much closer to where I live. The unlimited rice and cabbage refills are always a plus.
