Looks like Cara Mia (Lomita) is still taking orders for the 27th. Their pastries are pretty good.

Please save me from Wood Ranch Grill in MB!

Our friends/work associates want to meet for lunch in Manhattan Beach. We suggested Fishing With Dynamite. They suggested WRG. Not hating on WRG but I’m not driving 30 miles to eat there! I’m sure FWD’s prices were the catalyst for the WRG suggestion. I need a happy medium. Can anyone suggest a good sit-down place that is reasonably priced? Any kinda food will do! Thanks!

Check to see if any one of these are open for lunch. His OC concepts were good before the pandemic derailed them and he decamped to the South Bay.

Or travel east for amazing Japanese delights in Torrance (Carlos Tendon Jr, Waraku/formerly Watdatsumi, Kargura, Izakaya Hachi, Red Rock to name a few).

Alerting everyone to an excellent new pizza spot in Hermosa: Redwood Pie.

I have only tried their pepperoni sausage pie from their limited menu, but I was very impressed by the balanced flavors and perfectly crispy yet chewy crust. The undercarriage is also crispy (see pic below). They put natural casing pepperoni on their pies from Ezzo which created beautiful cupped 'ronnis. The interior is very simple- spartan yet warm; with a simple counter around the perimeter of the standing/dining area where you can sit and eat your pies.

I think I might give a slight edge to this place over my other South Bay pizza favorite Slice n’ Pint, and am excited to try their other pies. Check it out!

Redwood Pie.

Sotto alum who has worked at a bakery and ran a pizza truck. Fermented crust with multiple flours involved. I am giving this place a thumbs up. Chefs of that caliber have attention to detail using high quality ingredients @matthewkang

nice! that place caught my eye but their hours are limited. the burned crust gives me caution but otherwise it looks good

I love the cheese and sauce ratio. I can’t eat too much cheese when I eat crispy style pizzas like this. Love lot of more sauce and light cheese to feel all flavor with dough. Just like Luigi and L’industries or mama too.

Mixing tiny bit more or autolyse the dough longer and bulk ferment tiny bit more aggressive would solve burn bubbles on those styles but i’m not the chef. He serve what he think it’s good. Looks yummy.

@Ted did not lead us astray. Redwood is the best pizza in the South Bay without a doubt. IMO blows away slice and pint, prime and the rest.

High quality ingredients and care, he even rests his pies on wire racks before dropping them in boxes

Great crispy LA style NY pie. Crispy while still providing good chew and great flavor. I was talked into getting sausage and pepp by whomever answered the phone but pie did not feel heavy or overly meaty. i wanna go back and just try the plain cheese.

Will be back very soon!

I knew you would go soon!

The crust is very delicious. I wish the sauce was a little more sweet for my own personal taste. Easily the best. They are going to blow up. I did notice the wire rack as well hence my comment on “little details”.

Chicken Adobo

Huli Huli Chicken Leg

Poke & More – A Filipino/Hawaiian restaurant located on PCH in Lomita. Both the dishes were delicious, but the Chicken Adobo truly stood out with its smoky and complex flavors. Excellent value for the quality. It will be part of the regular rotation.
