Special Dinner Rec?

I have a friend who wants to take me out to a celebratory dinner, she’s told me “money is no object” although I don’t think anything like Hayato or Providence is appropriate to spring on her (not to mention that we’re trying to do it this weekend so it needs to be a place where it’s possible to get a reservation on short notice). Let’s say no more than about $300/head with maybe a cocktail each and one nice but not extravagant bottle of wine.

Given those parameters, what do you think is the most banging restaurant in town right now? I’m tempted just to book Majordomo since I know we’ll have a good meal there, but wanted to see what else 'm missing. I haven’t been to Yess, is that a good option? Or Funke if we can get a last-minute res? I always like Chi Spacca, but I’m not really feing that vibe for this occasion; I’d rather someplace I can dress up a bit and feel fancy.

Thanks for your help!

I’d say no to Yess. It’s too quiet, and there’s too high a probability of you or the friend not liking it.

I’d consider Osteria Mozza for almost anyone.

For an open-minded / artsy type, I’d choose Meteora.

Kinjiro’s a great idea.

Osteria Mozza is great but kind of moderately priced when someone says price is no object.

Kato has availability Friday but it’s over $300.

What types of cuisines/experiences does she like?

casa dani

Have you been? Spill the beans! I’m waiting on reviews before I decide whether or not to go.

Back on topic:
Majordomo is always great, BUT it’s hard to order some of the larger format plates with just 2 people (yes I know there are a few on this board that can take down the whole plate short rib by themselves).

I would second Citrin, or Saffy’s/Bavel.

not yet but it fits the bill for easy reservation.

It’s my choice, she’s taking me out  She’s not as food/restaurant-savvy as I am but she’s game for anything I want to do.

Have you been? Is it great?

Yeah I’d love to go to Kato but I don’t feel comfortable suggesting a very expensive tasting menu.

I’m kind of lukewarm on Osteria Mozza. Would rather go to Spacca or even the Pizzeria.

Funny enough, someone else once took me to Kinjiro when I helped them out with something. That’s a good idea.

I’ve done a lot of 2 person meals there, I think I have a good strategy
