What does that mean it went over my head?
It refers to the “rating system” used by LA food “influencer” Rick Lox. He posts on IG and ends his food reviews by giving the restaurant a “Lox level.” I won’t try to describe his videos or his reviews, but you can watch one or two and you’ll quickly get the gist.

Whatever. It reminds me of Led Zeppelin fans who hate All My Love because it doesn’t meet their closed-minded expectations for what Led Zeppelin should be. So what if Villa’s is authentic Mexican? It’s tasty.

Memo Torres an LA taco writer posted something on social media. Are Bill’s posts a violation of journalistic ethics? Do those exist any more since there is such a blurring of journalism vs social media personality?

Only if he’s a journalist. He seems to me more like the food version of a political opinion columnist.

I like Villas.
I don’t agree with Bill’s delivery but I do think Villas should take into consideration what Bill had to say about the technical aspects. Criticism is not being a “hater”. There is always room to improve. The mistake here is not thinking that you need to improve and what you have is perfect. Criticism should be welcomed. Sometimes an outsider can see something that you cannot because you are so blinded by your own ego.

He gave them a 9.0/10 at their GCM location.
Question: is he cured or smoked? If smoked he’s Nova, not lox.

He said the owner does not know how to cook amongst other “criticisms”. I think there is a big difference between not liking a restaurant/food and whatever this takedown is. I have no stake in this and have only been to Villas once but this seems very personal.
