Phu’s po tat
I haven’t had Jim’s po tat in years so I can’t make a comparison. This was slightly warm. I think it’s less sweet than Jim’s.

Second branch of Alice’s Kitchen opening soon in Temple City replacing Joy’s Unique Diner.
Nine Dining replaces New Haojing in Alhambra.
you didn’t get the fried fish in seaweed? or is it no longer on the menu? i recall that the menu changed after they moved from elmonte to temple city.
and there’s a new shaanxi place on valley west of rosemead, opened earlier this month. called something like xian biang-biang noodles. i plan on checking them out this weekend.
Let us know how those biang biang noodles are
How is Ahgoo’s 3 cup chicken? I want to try that shepherds purse fish soup.
that bread is like a sponge. eat one of those loaves and drink some liquid and you are done.
a friend became unexpectedly available for lunch today so i hit up xian biang biang noodles. it’s #102 in the same mall as golden soup restaurant on the second floor.
i went with the biang biang noodles
and the fried jelly
i don’t recall shaanxi dishes being as spicy as the dishes served here, but i enjoyed them. the noodles are clearly hand-made and seem to be about 18-24 inches long. they had decent Q but i had the subjective impression that they might have been left in the water a little longer than optimal, suggesting that they’d been pre-cooked and left soaking in water until serving. might be better technique to undercook them slightly and then blanch them right before seving.
the fried jelly was also a lot spicier than the version i had at noodle art about 18 months ago, even though both versions seem to include the same proportions of chili & green onion.
my friend ordered a noodle soup, which i neglected to photograph until he doled up a small portion, minus the noodles, since we were eating pseudo family style
the broth was flavorful and while spicy, the spice didn’t overwhelm it and make it difficult to finish the broth, which i did.
here is what also included in the original bowl. for once my new flip phone failed me.
the spiciness at the place probably reflects the hanzhong sub-regional style of shaanxi, not to mention the use of the beef since pork & lamb are more common in shaanxi cuisine.
Hard to fathom!
that particular picture was IMO out of focus compared to the other pics. the quality of my pics as a result of my still using a flip phone has been a source of amusement to some in the past. i’d still have that other flip phone if it hadn’t died, actually.

Noodle Harmony in Monterey Park closed by rent hike.
Now that is a bummer. That was a solid place.
for some reason i was not particularly enamored with the place, but i was there only once, which is what happens when you want to try a lot of different places, and you want to go back to the places you like the most.
Did you try it? If so, how does it compare to other tea shops?
Sorry, I have not tried it yet
