I also 99 Ranch, but is it that people from NorCal say Ranch 99?

Haha, I’m not sure if it’s a geographic division or something else, but plenty of people think it is Ranch 99! It’s not really up for debate though, the company’s own materials say 99 Ranch. Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPxT8ZiB8HY :upside_down_face:

Marnated sort of reminded me of the cloth banner that announced the coming of “Borther BBQ” on Garvey in Monterey Park. Luckily that was only a temporary sign, so when they put up the permanent signage it now said—“Borther BBQ.” But the menus did say Brother.

ME BO CLUB • JIAO YAN (美實會.叔宴), a Chinese restaurant opened in May 2025 in the old Chaun’s Chinese Restaurant (巴國市衣) in Temple City has the most creative English translations of some of it’s 108 dishes on their menu. See photos of the printed menu, front and back hopefully included below:

And a list of the most interesting translations are listed below.
I am not sure what Google will find if one Googles the following:
#9 plum cabbage button meat
#10 east slope elbow
#18 ringing oil eel paste
#27 hot waist flower
#29 coriander burst shutters
#39 seafood is full of blood
#76 mommy’s hoof flower
#77 back to the pot meat
#84 sauce elbow flower
#89 pat the cucumber
#108 rotten garlic fat sausage

If you liked reading those, then you may be a fan of engrish.com

I always ask my coworker from Guangzhou what they actually mean and she’s always like “they don’t mean shit, they just come up with the weirdest names possible for fun”

I popped over to the Alhambra 99 Ranch Market food court to check out the new “Mamated” Three Flavors sign, and discovered that business shifted one stall to the left. So I figure that they weren’t trying to correct the spelling. Rather they needed a new sign of a different size and whoever did the new sign was cross eyed and took the”rn” for an “m”.

What’s going on in Monterey Park? Alice’s Kitchen is closed and Mandarin Noodle house, the last pioneering Chinese restaurant from the 1970s is not reopening after fire.

Alice’s moved to Temple City.

Alice actually opened a Temple City branch a while back and operated two locations. However Monterey Park is gone and it sounds like Temple City while still open may be uncertain.

Now you can get some zong from a Chinese grandma via IG!

For those who don’t have it in in the underground word by mouth zongzi/dumpling game here’s a ticket!

Only tried their lemongrass tea. Will be back when the coffee menu is complete. Valencia says it’s wip. (Also, we moved to SGV!)

Rosemead Center, where Hue Thai Deli, Tip Top Market, and Hot Stone Pho are, just got super busy with the openings of Bake & Che and DaVien Coffee. The stretch of Garvey between San Gabriel Blvd and Rosemead has really started to blossom.

I just went - is Kueh their homemade palm sugar? I had the Kopichino with steamed milk and palm sugar and it blows any other coffee shop out of the water in SGV. Almost perfect. Not sure where they get their espresso from either. Nice ambiance and next door to Borneo Kalimantan. Def will go back for lunch.

As a Latino growing up in MPK hills in 70s and 80s I can attest to this. My neighborhood was mostly Japanese, we were one of the few Latino families on our block

Displaced from Altadena to Alhambra by the fire, so I’m at Uncle Fung every other weekend after visiting the farmers market. The Putu (latte with pandan milk and coconut cream top) is hands down the most unique espresso drink I’ve had in years.

Looks like Chubby Cattle group is expanding its empire. On Monterey St across from Sprouts plaza. Interiors of Bao Master next door look a bit upscale. Further down the street a specialty cafe and mochi scone bakery recently opened (ReBakesic) as well as a Lagree Studio.
