Yes, and that’s a main reason about why I really like EATING Shanghainese food but don’t love looking it (seriously).

It’s like a Cezanne painting.

A couple of updates for Main St in Alhambra

Perfectly Sweet at 126 W Main has permanently closed down and there is a new Korean restaurant replacing Sweethoney Dessert at 410 W Main

Be patient with the chef and the staff at 3 He Noodles. They are new to running to a restaurant. The end product is worth it!

ALL of the banners at the Alhambra 99 Ranch Market food court that were there just two weeks ago have been replaced. This is after the rapid turnover in businesses had already already turned most of them over earlier this year. But upon closer inspection the new banners are no longer restaurant names but food descriptions (Leave A Black Duck???), and the old restaurants are still there.

Glad to see they’re still operating. I dropped by a couple of months ago and they seemed to be overwhelmed with just mom and pop in back and a teenage kid in front. Food is awesome.

I should add that 3 He really got off on the wrong foot because the prior occupant had placed a giant curtain separating the kitchen from the front of the store advocating the impeachment of President Biden. Well as would have it their first Yelp review was a one star from someone who was insulted by the message. Now mom and Pop know no English and all they saw was a sturdy curtain. And the curtain came down as soon as the message was explained to them. But man that could have been fatal and that’s why I immediately posted a glowing review.

I’ll make it a point to visit them this weekend to support.

I think “leave a black duck” is a plausible translation of the Mandarin, though perhaps a slightly more likely translation is “reserve a black duck”?

Found this shot on Yelp of the offending curtain. Appears to have been privately made.

No trouble translating that :face_without_mouth:! Glad someone helped them out. Best to stay out of politics if you are a restaurant

Tried a couple of places per this thread.

The Bund (Shanghainese on San Gabriel). A touch above average Shanghainese food. Dishes were too sweet for my tastes, but that’s the Shanghainese way.

Yihui. The coffee was over roasted for my tastes. Not Starbucks burnt, but roasty notes dominated. I found acidity inadequate, and I had a tough time discerning flavors. Still I would go back for the caffeine fix without Starbucks bitter char mouth.
