I thought I recognized Tomata and looks like a Gary Leonard photo. One of my favorite bands, along with The Minutemen from that era.
There’s a reason why Forn Al Hara is always packed and bringing out dozens of boxes of manaeesh to go.
Oh yeah Forn Al Hara! Easily one of the best in Little Arabia! Definitely a heavy hitter. They are the best for these flatbreads!
You would enjoy a visit here. Owner is super chill to talk to. What’s more punk than having no guitars!!?! Very punk!

Some recent eats…
Sur Mediterranean, Mar Vista (Venice Blvd/Centinela)- I’m in the CVS parking lot and suddenly I smell something real nice, I look over and there’s a ton of smoke, so yeah, I’m definitely checking it out. It turns out it’s a Turkish-Kurdish influenced spot. It was a pretty chilly day so the complimentary Turkish tea was lovely. I got a roasted beef pide and it was delicious, absolutely hit the spot. The lahmahcun is great too…This spot is totally worth checking out! I had a Kurdish Uber driver the next day and he was like oh yeah, that’s the new favorite spot for us. The street food scene in LA is so good, the best in America no doubt.
The Original Rinaldi’s, El Segundo - This place is my go-to for an Italian sub, they don’t skimp out on the oil & vinegar, just the way I like it. Great sandwich shop all around.
Howard’s Famous Bacon and Avocado Burgers - Let’s just say that Howard knows how to make bacon and avocado work. Wait the guy behind the counter said his name was Tony. Next stop is Hamburger Habit because KABC named it best burger 35 years ago and I need to know why.
Dama Grill - This place has gotten popular so there seems to always be a line, and it doesn’t move so quick. The wrap is delicious and I’m a fan of their pomegranate sauce! The fries were alright. All in all, I think I liked Sincerely Syria slightly more.
Joe’s Pizza - Didn’t know if Joe’s was related to the NY one, but after one bite of the Sicilian, I knew it was legit. I found out the founder of Joe’s owns all the spots on the west coast, and his kids own the ones in New York, result of a messy divorce. My go to for a quick Sicilian. Also, love the “little table” on my slice.. good childhood memories.
Little Fatty at Accomplice Bar - The cocktail bar scene in LA is not great but Accomplice Bar in Mar Vista is one of the better ones and it’s always nice to go to a place that serves solid food with the drinks. Orange Chicken and fried rice will make you wanna stay there longer and buy another drink or 2. Ask Jon Taffer, he’ll tell ya alright
For the Win - One of the better smashburger spots IMO. There’s a new location in Westwood and my wife and I decided to pick some up on our way home. Parked my car out front to quickly pick up the burgers and drive away, my wife stayed in the car. Not even 2 minutes later, I got a $100 parking ticket. Absolutely no mercy from the Westwood parking ticket cop who was waiting for a kind burger lover to get fucked over. At that point, I told the guy make it a double bacon cheeseburger and I added a chocolate shake, worth it. Safe to say it was the most expensive burger I ever had.
Tara’s Himalayan - Yak Chili. Shoutout to Tara.
Hu’s Szechuan - My go to Mapo tofu in the area. The wonton soup here is great as well, excellent soft dumplings with noodles, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, bean sprouts in a spicy chicken broth. Hopefully it’ll continue to stay around.
Hu’s Szechuan & Howard’s! you are hitting up the good locals spots!
Damn Sur looks good. I wish they were around on Sunday for lunch when the Mar Vista farmer’s market is going on. I’ll have to swing by and check it out.
Damn – that’s the best looking stuff I’ve ever seen from Bistro Na’s.
Just to clarify this is a food truck? Any idea how it compares to Doner Corner?
Not as expensive as the meal we had from Dumpling Wei on NYE, when partner didn’t know that the bus lanes still applied that day.
And we didn’t even get a chance to try the Dom Pérignon that a friend had re-gifted to us that we brought to a party later that night. ::sigh::
But, still, I feel ya…
Yeah, the city is ramping up parking enforcement…
Churros Flash – one-man operation in the Pavilions parking lot on Melrose, on the Lillian Way side.
Great QPR, $5 for 6 churros ($1 more for toppings/drizzles), 5-6” each. Solid, if a little oily, but the oil had a clean aftertaste at least. They also have platanos but didn’t try this time. Open 6-10pm, I think Tues-Sun?
The taco stand on the Vine St side has re-branded from Asadero Los Angeles to Tacos Entre Amigos, and they’ve leveled up. Adobada/pastor and asada were better than my previous couple times. Good tortillas and salsas, cool people.
Ohmigod, the tent looks huge! Thanks for the info. The menu looks decently different from Doner Corner, so looking forward to trying this.
Yapingacho (more often spelled llapingacho), a high-altitude Andean breakfast made of fried potato cakes stuffed with cheese and smothered with salsa de maní. Got the hornado add-on. DulcisFama Ecuadorian Restaurant in Gardena, this grew out of a home-based bakery business that I never got the chance to try, but now they have a full menu in addition to the savory and sweet baked goods.
Always finding the deep cuts! Appreciate you
