Rustic Canyon - still solid

A re review after all this time would make a big difference. It’s been a few chefs. There’s no more Jeremy Fox. The food is so different. When I’ve gone it’s been EMPTY even on a Friday

Better than good neighborhood restaurant, but not cross town destination worthy for us. We’d probably go once a month if we lived in Santa Monica.

well, not the Times, but a review today: “The 20-year-old LA wine bar that helped shape how California eats. After 2 decades, it may be better than ever”

I found it interesting that Jeremy Fox declined to be interviewed…

I’ll post my report later; I went last night. The place was packed, and the food was fantastic.

What was interesting was that our server said, “I don’t know how long you’ll be here, but there’s an event [some sort of winery event?] on Thursday…” I wonder if they have a lot of guests from out of town w/ the World Cup?

Went back again. We agree this is a very good restaurant, definitely better than “good neighborhood restaurant.” Creative, generally healthy, well executed.

Your photos are always amazing. Every dish looks delicious. I’m either a terrible photographer or I need a new phone. Or both.

Hey there - curious how much the Flannery ribeye goes for nowadays? I’m a huge fan of them when they run their 30% off ribeye special and have made some amazing meals.

I see the menu now. I’m conditioned to expect MP for ribeye. That’s actually a great deal.

Yeah, the 28 oz. ribeyes I bought for 30% off last month were $86 each, so $59 in a restaurant is a bargain even if it’s half that weight.

hit up the sale too! The 32oz “Jorge” was awesome.

Has MP for beef cuts at restaurants always been a thing or is it a response to the current beef price environment? I don’t recall seeing it very often 5+ years ago, but it could just be that I wasn’t paying as much attention.

I can’t remember the first time I saw it but I think it was in the past ten years.

Had a nice meal at the bar last night. No happy hour for me, I was there around 8ish. I love to finish a meal with a sherry or madeira so it was nice to a couple new ones.

What was your favorite dish? (although I think I might be more interested in getting the pistachio gelato from Sweet Rose…)
