South Bay Staples

Seconded I’ve heard the waits are atrocious

we went recently on a weekend off-peak, like 3p, and the wait time was still 40 min.
I think the move is to make a beeline to put name on Yelp waitlist first, and then do grocery shopping (or pregame at the food court).
The sake samples downstairs helped us out

Loved waka sakura – we got to try a lot of fish that was new to us for not too much $$$.

I’ll have to try this next time!

Some redbo action was being cheap so just got the beef ball bowl which is a relatively affordable 14 dollars. Happy to report that the soup was hot as hell! I asked and they said they usually serve it really hot so my first visit must’ve been anomaly.

Yah, we never go on weekends… Just go on weekday before 5:30 and it shouldn’t be any wait!

Went to Ramen Sumiya or maybe it goes by ToriSoba Sumiya, in Torrance. They specialize in chicken ramen. I had their creamy chicken ramen with chicken “char siu.” They call it chicken chowder style but it did not invoke New England Clam Chowder vibes at all. It was just a smooth, velvety broth.

I’ll be back.

Maybe they thought it would be more descriptive than Tori paitan!

Been once and got the turkey sandwich. Wasn’t crazy about the cream cheese based spread they put on it but otherwise the other ingredients and bread were pretty good. I’d go back.

Rieras: my son continues to love the cubano there. i used to enjoy the pizza but i suspect that’s because i was just desperate to find a “healthier” thick crust pizza. but my most recent trip finally convinced me its not that good. the sauce is too sweet, the cheese is meh.

I just moved to the South Bay and for the first meal out with the kids took them to Waka Saurka. Seated the four of us instantly at noon yesterday with zero wait so maybe dinner and weekends are when it gets too crazy there?

Honestly very happy with the price and selection. I haven’t been to conveyer belt sushi in a few years and was very happy with the range of items for the kids. Diddn’t think my toddlers would eat any of the fish so over ordered with chawanmushi, soybeans and “wagyu” but they ate pretty much everything.

For the price point the quality for sure worked for us and could see it being a staple! Also loved this sign that if you had a drink or two don’t take the stairs.

Yeah I love rieras sandwiches but the pizza is definitely a pass

Cross post went to curryfornia, kotohira, jinmi, and Kansha. All worth checking out in Gardena

Anyone tried gogo curry yet?

Returned last Friday. Finally gave up on the pizza and got a tri tip. Tasty! Tender, flavorful beef. The jus was good. The bread could be crisper on the outside but overall a solid sandwich!

Funny story. The guy eating next to us told the owner that he was moving out of state and this was his last sandwich at Riera’s, which looked like a packed Reuben. Every bite, the guy would close his eyes, nod approvingly and savor the taste. It was almost endearing to watch!

Nice great to hear about true tip. I’ve never had tri tip or Rueben. I always tell myself I should expand and try something new but I just keep on ordering the same stuff

Went to eboshi for the first time in a long time this week. They have great mid week lunch specials. A bowl of ramen costs only around 13 bucks normally so it’s super affordable for the budget conscious and their fried rice has tons of wok hei. Great chuka spot.

Try the soondae bokkeum (spicy stir fry glass noodles) at Jinmi next time. IMO one of the best Korean dishes in LA.

For those non-south bay locals. Come and visit Jinmi. It’s very LA FTC. Mom-n-pop maybe 6 tables at most. Some unique banchan.

Chachi’s. Really appreciate what they are doing here. No “mayo and/or mustard” because they make their own sauces/spreads for each sandwich. Would go back if I was in the area. On a weekday can’t really justify driving 30 min to Pedro. It’s across from Ft MacArthur so yeah.

I’ll have to bookmark chachis!

Some good tacos. They broke up the market at the 110 and pch but a lot of the stands have migrated slightly north up Figueroa.

Went to el compita and it was as good as always just not as busy.

Also went to tacos Leo. Still probably my favorite pastor in the city. Perfectly crispy while maintaining a tender underside. Even with the expansion their quality has remained high, so glad for them I remember when they were just one solo truck off that gas station in Venice.
