Happy mid-autumn/moon festival today everyone!
Good for local businesses tonight. On the other hand be prepared to possibly wait.
I missed out on the preorder for mooncakes at Baker’s Bench =(
Hengry is on my to eat list. Possibly the only Guizhou specialist in SGV. @secretasianman made a visit. The sour soup looks like the move. In house fermented tomatoes for the base….interesting!
Zheng Shang Xian.
Shaxian( Fujian). Not your typical! Check out the soup menu, steamed dishes, and Shaxian style dumplings/wontons. Also might be one of its only kind in SGV to my knowledge.
Do you know if Kee Wah has extended hours tonight? I don’t think I’m hallucinating a marketing text message about that…m
Just went earlier today to Kee Wah. They are BUSY!
Slipped into Garvey just now – steady but not slammed!
every table had an order of the soup when i was there. it’s pretty good.
Did you see this ESGV update last month? ESGV Updates (Rowland Hts., Hacienda Hts., etc.) - #273 by chandavkl
I did. Will have to try it out soon.
Hua Du cuisine at One Best Noodle in El Monte. Interesting to see a restaurant specializing in a particular district of Guangzhou. Also one of a number of Cantonese Mainlander restaurants popping up around El Monte.
isn’t ocean bo in the same strip mall?
Yes, them too, along with Corner Beef Noodle and the Chinese variety store.
and maybe 20 years from now, they’ll identify this as the beginning of the el monte chinatown.
I guess Macao Cafe never recovered from the awful reviews when they opened even though they apparently righted the ship. Being so proximate to the popular HK Macau Cafe didn’t help.

Yihui cafe has a pretty nice coffee program going on. Thanks for the heads up. Bought some beans from Lumen and had a few drinks.
Bumble Bee - Orange, sparkling, espresso
Cloudy - red date, pear, cream
Thanks for this! I find I myself in SGV a lot, but I never would have dreamed there’s decent coffee.
The Bund 8
Shanghainese vegan meal. Grew up eating these dishes at family get togethers. Broad beans are so good. Also really delicious stir fry with doubanjiang and aromatics. What a plaza you get can get a Shanghainese meal, go next door and play pool, finish off/take a break at a late night cha chaan teng! Needs a KTV tho
Notice how Shanghainese food is either brown or green? lol
